COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich., (WXYZ) - A father in Commerce Township has been arrested and arraigned in the murder of his four-month-old son.
Richard L. Gillis III is being charged with Homicide Felony Murder and First Degree Child Abuse after the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner ruled craniocerebral trauma/homicide as the cause of death for his four-month old child, Richard Gillis IV.
On June 10, doctors at Huron Valley Sinai and Univ. of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital found internal cranial bleeds and multiple skull and rib fractures in the victim who was initially placed on life support.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department said Gillis became primary suspect after making several incriminating statements during an interview.
Gillis was arrested on June 18th and arraigned the following day. He is currently in the Oakland County jail without bond.
A preconference examination is scheduled for Wednesday in Novi District Court.
