Dad pleads guilty in death of 3-month-old daughter; baby was in "solely in her father's custody" at time of death (Greenbelt, Maryland)

Yet another case showing why it's stupid for (apparently) unmarried fathers to have visitation with infants. Dad JONATHAN J. JACOBS couldn't even be bothered to do infant care himself. He dumps a 3-month-old baby at his mother's house, orders his sister to take care of the child, and then takes off. Apparently Daddy Dearest had already assaulted the child (fatally as it turns out) before he left the baby on the bed.

Babies should stay with their mothers or caretakers that their mothers choose (nice grandmotherly types, hopefully). The latest boytoy/sperm donor does not generally make a good babysitter, as should be abundantly clear by now. And yet mothers are continually lectured on "involving" the biological father, no matter who he is, or whether he can tolerate the "frustration" of infant care. And then the courts have all drunk the FR Koolaid too, so they're all convinced that daddies must be "involved" as well. And woe to any mother who objects.

Man pleads guilty to fatal child abuse

A Greenbelt man pleaded guilty Monday to child abuse resulting in the death of his 3-month-old daughter.

Jonathan I. Jacobs, 23, now faces up to 20 years in jail, according to his plea agreement.

His daughter, Zariyah Jacobs, died of blunt force trauma to the head in September and the death was ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Through an autopsy, the medical examiner also discovered the girl had suffered prior abuse and she had injuries on her ribs that were in the process of healing when she died.

On Sept. 2, an aunt had gone to wake Zariyah from a nap to feed her when she discovered the girl was unresponsive, according to charging documents filed in Prince George’s County Circuit Court.

Prince George’s County police determined Zariyah was solely in her father’s custody for about seven hours before she was found dead. On the morning of Sept. 2, Jacobs left Zariyah’s mother’s home with the baby girl and took her to his mother’s home in Greenbelt. He laid her down on a bed and asked his sister to wake the girl to feed her in about an hour and left the house.

Jacobs is scheduled to be sentenced before Judge Leo Green Jr. on Aug. 12.
