We have followed this case for three years, and there has been NO EXPLANATION in the media as to how a homeless, dysfunctional, child-neglecting, cocaine-using father got custody. Who was responsible for this decision?

Dad of Ohio Girl Found Dead in Crib Guilty of Corpse Abuse

A man whose daughter's decomposed body was found in a crib by a cable television worker was convicted Wednesday of corpse abuse and tampering with evidence.
Investigators were unable to determine how 21-month-old Ember Warfel died last summer because her body was so badly decomposed. Prosecutors argued that her father, Eric Warfel, did not report his daughter's death because he did not want an autopsy performed.
A judge also found the 35-year-old Warfel guilty of child endangering.
Warfel, who was found competent to stand trial after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity, will be sentenced next month and faces up to six years in prison.
Ember's body was discovered last July in a Medina apartment, south of Cleveland.
Another daughter of Warfel's, a 5-month-old, died in 2013. A medical examiner ruled that case as a "sudden unexplained infant death."
Warfel's attorney has said Ember was born with severe medical problems. He also said Warfel's failure to report his daughter's death was not enough reason to convict him on the corpse abuse and tampering charges.
While the cause of the girl's death hasn't been determined, an autopsy did find traces of cocaine in her hair samples.
Warfel was arrested after a cable technician went into an apartment to upgrade the service and found the toddler's body in her crib.
Warfel, who was divorced from the girl's mother, had full custody of the child.
He told investigators Ember died about a month earlier and he hadn't informed family members or anyone else about her death, according to a police report.
Warfel was arrested while he and his 7-year-old daughter were at a mall near Cleveland. He said they were living at a motel, and investigators found cocaine in his motel room, police said.

The new charges were added to the gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence charges that Warfel already faced after a cable company employee discovered 1-year-old Ember's body in a crib in Warfel's apartment in the Forest Meadows complex July 29.
Warfel remains jailed on $1 million bond after he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence charges.
The child's death remains under investigation, according to the Medina County Coroner's Office.
The new charges allege that on June 18, the day investigators estimate that Ember died, as well as on July 26-28, Warfel endangered a 7-year-old child whose name was redacted.
Warfel's father wrote in a letter asking Judge Christopher Collier to reduce his $1 million bond that Warfel's 7-year-old daughter "means everything to him."
The 7 year old has been in the custody of other family members since Warfel's arrest, officials said.
The new indictment also alleges Warfel possessed an unspecified amount of cocaine on July 28 and 29.
Detectives said in late July that they found what they suspected was cocaine in a room at a Middleburg Heights motel where Warfel had been staying in the days leading up to the discovery of the child's body.
Warfel's case is set to go to trial in November.

Protective mom fights abusive custodial dad over disabled sons (Plymouth County, Iowa)
Since this is being covered in the Native American press, the issue is being framed as a Native mother being crushed by a white father. That angle obviously plays into it, no doubt about it.
But we have seen similar situations played out where ethnic/racial differences are not apparent. To a very large extent, this is testimony to how much power the fathers rights movement has been able to wield over the family courts and child "protection" system. And that also needs to be brought out.
The fact that 17-year-old boys are being silenced by the courts is very much a fathers rights thing. SHAME ON JUDGE EDWARD JACOBSON for engaging in heavy-handed FR tactics.

Sioux Mother to Return to Court in Latest Fight for Her Abused Sons

On Friday, November 21 another hearing is scheduled in the Iowa District Court in Plymouth County in an interstate custody showdown that has sparked national outrage among tribes and Indian child welfare advocates over the return of disabled twin brothers to the custody of their non-Indian father, who has six founded cases of child abuse on his record. One of the boys is wheelchair bound with cerebral palsy, while the other is blind and has autism.
Last June, Audre’y Eby, the twins’ Rosebud Sioux mother who resides in Nebraska, was jailed for a week in Iowa on kidnapping charges for refusing to return the boys back to their father after officials in Nebraska threatened her with child endangerment charges when they found evidence of abuse during an emergency room visit, in which blood and bruises were found on one of the boys’ groin area. The boys testified to officials in both states that their father’s girlfriend had kicked one of them after she caught him masturbating and that the father had threatened to “cut his privates off.”
Trapped between competing interstate jurisdictions, Eby said she had no choice but to keep her children, even though she subsequently went to jail in Iowa for trying to protect them from their abusers.
Eby kept the boys in Nebraska for a time, but subsequently moved them to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota in order to protect them from their father and his live-in girlfriend, both of whom have been placed on the Iowa Central Abuse Registry for physical abuse, denial of critical care and failure to provide proper supervision to the twins. In early October, the boys, who are now 17, were ordered to appear before Judge Edward Jacobson for testimony at a hearing, with which Eby complied. But rather than allowing the boys to testify as ordered, Jacobson instead ordered half a dozen police officers to physically remove the boys from their mother’s custody in the hallway of the courthouse in front of at least a dozen bystanders, who were shocked that the incident took place in such a public manner with no plan for a peaceful transfer, as usually is required under these circumstances. Eby said both boys were struggling and screaming to stay with her as they were being led away by law enforcement.
“Judge Jacobson said ‘I don’t allow children to testify in my court,’” said Eby. “The order was a ruse to get me to bring them [to Iowa] so they could take them from me.”
Subsequently, in a one-page ruling issued by Judge Edward Jacobson that only vaguely refers to the evidence that was presented, the boys were immediately ordered back to their father that day. Jacobson only mentioned that Eby had “absconded” with the children, in spite of the fact that the State of Nebraska had threatened her with child endangerment if she returned them to their father. Judge Jacobson also ordered that “Mr. Courtright shall have full care, custody, and control of both children. Visistation [sic] shall be at Mr. Courtright's discretion,” in spite of six founded charges of abuse on father’s record.
Eby has had no contact with her children since that time and that the boys’ father has threatened her that she will “never see them again” if she continues with the case.
“One can say that these young men fell through the cracks,” says Frank LaMere, the director of the Four Directions Community Center in Sioux City, Iowa. “The people over in Plymouth County absolutely knew what was happening to these boys and they turned a blind eye. The DHS and the officers of the court are very aware of the abuse charges against their father, but they feel no responsibility whatsoever in spite of the fact that these allegations have been confirmed and are on the record.”
LaMere says that he intends to be at the hearing on Friday, along with other members of the Native community to show their support for the twins and their mother, who they feel is victim of the racist policies toward Native parents in courtrooms across the country.
“If a Native man had six allegations of abuse on his record, he would be serving five to 10 years in prison,” said LaMere, who is a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. “But we have a white father and a white girlfriend with six founded charges and what does Judge Jacobson do? He gives the abused children back to their perpetrators and throws the Indian mother in jail. I’ve never seen anything like it in all my years of Indian child welfare experience.”
Next week, Eby and LaMere are scheduled to attend the 12th Annual March to Honor Lost Children in Sioux City. For 12 years, says LaMere, it has been necessary to organize these marches and events to raise awareness of the challenges faced by Native community members who find themselves locked in a never-ending battle with child welfare systems across the country.
“We have worked hard to build a good relationship with officials here in Woodbury County,” said LaMere. “But there are countless counties across the country that ignore the Indian Child Welfare Act. Sadly, they forget that ICWA is not a ‘defense’ strategy – it is federal law. And we want to ensure that they are attentive to the requirements of the law.”

Dad leaves toddlers alone in car while he gambles at casino; did this happen during Dad's custody time? (Scottsdale, Arizona)
So we're told that Daddy was with his "girlfriend." We're not told she was the mother of these children, which makes me suspect she wasn't. So was this a custody/visitation situation? We're not told.
Meanwhile, notice that CPS has taken custody of the kids. So if there is a mother somewhere else, she is being punished for Daddy's irresponsibility. Unfortunately, this happens a lot.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A Mesa dad faces child abuse charges after he allegedly left his two children in a parked car while he was at a Scottsdale casino early Wednesday morning.
The children, ages 2 and 3, were found in the vehicle on the upper level of Talking Stick Resort’s parking garage at 9800 E. Indian Bend Rd. by security officers with the casino’s bike patrol, a court document stated.
Salt River police officers found Thomas Devereux, 29, with his girlfriend on the main floor of the casino at around 2:50 a.m..
Child Protective Services were notified and took custody of the children.
Devereux was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on one count of child abuse and one count of endangering the life of a minor.
Meanwhile, notice that CPS has taken custody of the kids. So if there is a mother somewhere else, she is being punished for Daddy's irresponsibility. Unfortunately, this happens a lot.

Albuquerque police have arrested two men for allegedly endangering an infant as they traveled in their Mustang convertible to a fast food joint armed with an assault rifle, all while carrying an 8-month-old boy who police said appeared to have been neglected.
Officers in Northeast Albuquerque were sent to a Jack in the Box on the 5000 block of Montgomery around 5 a.m. Saturday morning to question two men, who appeared to be drunk, as they tried to order food at the drive through, according to Albuquerque police. The store’s manager called police to report that the driver had an assault rifle on his lap and that his passenger was holding the infant.
The infant had an “extremely soiled diaper” and a T-shirt too small for the weather, said APD spokesman Simon Drobik. The boy’s father said he could not remember the last time the baby had been fed.
“Hollywood couldn’t come up with this story,” Drobik said. “What it really comes down to is the safety of the child.”
The father, 27-year-old Colin Decker, and driver, 28-year-old Mark Richard Cropper, were arrested on a charge of child endangerment, police said. Officers found a black handgun in the passenger seat and two other guns in their search of the vehicle, Drobik said.
Drobik said the two men were very confrontational with police, including one who refused to provide his address, and it’s unclear why the men brought the guns. Neither appears to have much of a criminal history, according to online state court records.
As officers were at the scene, they pooled their money to pay for food, formula, clothing and diapers for the child, Drobik said, before taking him to the police substation for a diaper change and a meal. The state Children, Youth and Families Department then took custody of the child, Drobik said.
“They’re (the officers) all parents, and the parental instincts kicked in,” he said.
Cropper and Decker are being held at the county jail on $15,000 cash or surety bonds. They’re both facing charges relating to child abuse.

Mom blames school police for 7-year-old daughter's abduction by non-custodial dad; police dismissed case as "custody dispute" though dad on probation for child endangerment (Miami-Dade County, Florida)
Florida is infamous--even by U.S. standards--for its callous treatment of mothers and children. This case just further proves why Florida has the horrible reputation that it does.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. - A South Florida 7-year-old disappeared after school one day last month and then surfaced in Texas with the father, who was arrested.
Despite her mother's calls to police for help, it seems her girl fell through the cracks.
Nikoll Castellanos' daughter returned home during the weekend with burn marks on all of her fingers, rescued in police raids in Texas.
Last month, Edwin Maldonado got a relative to whisk his daughter away after school at a Miami Beach elementary school. "They didn't do their jobs," Castellanos said of police.
"They failed to protect my daughter."
Now the 7-year old's mother, who hired private investigators to help bring her daughter home, blames school officials for not protecting her daughter from estranged and dangerous relatives. She also blames school police for not taking steps to retrieve her.
"They knew the situation at hand and I told them to please have more eyes on my child," Castellanos said.
The child claims her aunt took her outside her classroom, but the school police chief claims a teacher escorted her to the street for an aftercare program and then lost track of her.
Miami Beach police were also called. An email obtained by Local 10 shows they took an assist role, believing school police to be the lead agency.
Once school police learned the girl's father had her, they considered it all just a custody dispute.
"He just got put on probation for endangering this child's life for throwing a Mach 10 machine gun outside of a window in a chase with law enforcement with the child in the car," private investigator Joe Carrillo said.
The incident has some similarities to that of Carrie Weingarth, whom school police arrested after she took her son from school without permission.
"They say it's a custody battle. It wasn't," Castellanos said. "This was not an average father."
Maldonado faces multiple charges, including child endangerment.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. - A South Florida 7-year-old disappeared after school one day last month and then surfaced in Texas with the father, who was arrested.
Despite her mother's calls to police for help, it seems her girl fell through the cracks.
Nikoll Castellanos' daughter returned home during the weekend with burn marks on all of her fingers, rescued in police raids in Texas.
Last month, Edwin Maldonado got a relative to whisk his daughter away after school at a Miami Beach elementary school. "They didn't do their jobs," Castellanos said of police.
"They failed to protect my daughter."
Now the 7-year old's mother, who hired private investigators to help bring her daughter home, blames school officials for not protecting her daughter from estranged and dangerous relatives. She also blames school police for not taking steps to retrieve her.
"They knew the situation at hand and I told them to please have more eyes on my child," Castellanos said.
The child claims her aunt took her outside her classroom, but the school police chief claims a teacher escorted her to the street for an aftercare program and then lost track of her.
Miami Beach police were also called. An email obtained by Local 10 shows they took an assist role, believing school police to be the lead agency.
Once school police learned the girl's father had her, they considered it all just a custody dispute.
"He just got put on probation for endangering this child's life for throwing a Mach 10 machine gun outside of a window in a chase with law enforcement with the child in the car," private investigator Joe Carrillo said.
The incident has some similarities to that of Carrie Weingarth, whom school police arrested after she took her son from school without permission.
"They say it's a custody battle. It wasn't," Castellanos said. "This was not an average father."
Maldonado faces multiple charges, including child endangerment.

Aaron S. Piland, 26, admitted Monday to two counts of aggravated battery and one count of child abuse of his then-3-month-old son, who suffered critical internal injuries sometime between Jan. 1 and Jan. 27 while in his parents’ care.
Two other charges – a count of aggravated endangering of a child and an additional count of aggravated battery – were dismissed as part of Monday’s plea deal with prosecutors, Sedgwick County District Court records show. He is set for sentencing June 23.
The charges arose after the baby’s mother, Christina M. Schulte, took the boy to Wesley Medical Center on Jan. 28, claiming he had become unresponsive during a bath. Hospital staff alerted police, who described the boy’s injuries as “very serious and severe” and inconsistent with Schulte’s explanations.
Both parents were arrested the next day. The infant and two other children were placed in police protective custody care at the time.
Schulte, 28, is awaiting trial in the case on one count of child abuse and one count of aggravated endangering a child. She is due back in court June 9.

PAW PAW, Mich. (May 2, 2014) – A father was caught hiding drugs in a container of baby formula following a traffic stop in Van Buren County this week and his 10-month-old was in the car with him.
Deputies said he wasn’t just storing the product when they stopped him, he was using it as well leading to his arrest.
Deputy Brian Matthews with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office said 33-year-old Andrew Dentler of Paw Paw was pulled over for having a taillight out.
The deputy said Dentler was under the influence and found evidence tucked inside a package of dry baby formula. 58 grams of marijuana and a chunk of a marijuana wax, which is concentrated THC from pot.
“They take that substance, place it onto other drugs itself and smoke that as well which gives a bigger high,” said Deputy Matthews.
According to investigators, the father was already on probation for driving under the influence when he was pulled over at the corner of 52nd Avenue just west of CR 665 in Van Buren County on Thursday.
During the most recent stop, deputies said they could smell marijuana. The deputy said Dentler admitted he had drugs in the car.
The location of the drugs prompted a charge of child endangerment. Deputy Matthews said it’s possible the THC from both the wax and the marijuana buds could contaminate the formula, putting the child at risk.
“Anytime you have drugs mixed in with food it’s a bad thing for the child and all the parties involved in it,” he said.
After placing Dentler under arrest, investigators said a 35-year-old woman, a friend of Dentler, stopped to pick-up the infant but police said she too was high on drugs at the time.
“A person stops by and tries to help out the first on but unfortunately she is obviously intoxicated by drugs and subsequently she was arrested for driving while intoxicated by drugs as well,” he said.
The deputy said eventually a sober family member was able to give the child a safe ride home.

Thomas Harper is also charged with intoxication manslaughter and child endangerment following the Dec. 2011 incident.
Arguments began in court on Tuesday, with the defense saying that Harper was disoriented and that he shot the good Samaritan, 18-year-old Clarence Robinson, while defending his family.
The district attorney argues that Harper was driving erratically, was high at the time and put his kids in danger.
Another driver, Najee Nasir, was killed in the crash allegedly caused by Harper.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A father arrested last year for DUI outside a south Nashville elementary school was arrested again over the weekend after police say he threw a child's car seat with the child still strapped in it.
Joseph Skinner was arrested Sunday night and charged with child endangerment.
Police said Skinner, 31, got into an argument with the child's mother and her boyfriend in a parking lot. During the argument, Skinner unbuckled the child's car seat and, with the child still in it, threw it out of the car.
Police found the little boy with markings on his back. He was taken to Summit Medical Center where he was treated for injuries to his back.
Skinner was booked into the Metro jail on $80,000 bond.
He was the only person arrested in connection with the incident.
According to police records, Skinner was a passenger in an SUV his wife was driving, along with the baby's mother and her boyfriend.
An argument started in the vehicle and Skinner's wife pulled over in the parking lot of a business on Old Hickory Boulevard.
That is when police report a physical fight broke out inside the vehicle between the adults. During the fight is when police said Skinner unhooked the baby's car seat and tossed it out of the car into the parking lot.
Officers were called to the parking lot by a fight in progress call, but when they arrived Skinner was gone. Metro police arrested him later in a different location.
News 2 attempted to contact the baby's mother, but we were unable to reach her by phone.
"I would be horrified if that happened to my child," mother of a 2-year-old daughter Lauren Smith said. "That just seems like a heartless person to me."
Last November, Skinner was arrested outside Tusculum Elementary School after the school's principal saw him staggering around the parking lot.
Skinner had just dropped off one of his children at the school.
Responding officers found Skinner intoxicated with his two-year-old child in his car.
According to arrest records, Skinner told the officers he had taken oxycodone and soma. He was found guilty of DUI with a child and DUI.
He also had an outstanding fugitive warrant from Georgia at the time.
Skinner is due in court April 17th for his latest arrest.

Emergency crews responded to a March 9 call about two unresponsive adults in the fast-food restaurant's indoor play area. They needed emergency treatment to recover from what police called "life-threatening overdoses."
Authorities said the couple from Dillsboro, Ind., acknowledged using heroin while with two children, a 5-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy. Palmer is the girl's father; the boy's relationship with the couple wasn't made clear.
Attorney Michael J. Trapp says Palmer is very sorry.

A Monroe man was held Wednesday on a $7,000 bond on charges of battery and child endangerment.
Tuesday night, Monroe police contacted the victim who reportedly said her baby’s father, Travillion Bass, 24, of 316 Nevada Drive came to her residence. She reportedly said he was angry because she had gone to a friend’s house. According to Bass’s arrest report, the victim said he grabbed her by the throat and pushed her onto a bed in front of their 9-month-old child.
She reportedly said he also pushed her to the floor and into a door jamb, where she hit her head. Police report observing a large knot on her forehead. The victim reportedly said she was able to hit him at least twice in an attempt to defend herself.
As the investigation continued into early Wednesday morning, police contacted Bass at his home. Bass reportedly said he and the victim were fighting because the baby had been outside without clothes. He reportedly said the argument did become physical, with her hitting him and Bass pushing her back. Bass reportedly said that she ran into the wall, at which point he left and went home.
The victim reportedly had an active restraining order against Bass. The two reportedly lived together for six months with their baby until approximately a month ago.
Bass was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center and charged with domestic abuse battery with child endangerment and violation of a protective order.

PUTNAM, Conn. (AP) — The father and stepmother of a 2½-year-old boy who died in Putnam last week are facing cruelty and reckless endangerment charges.
Connecticut State Police said Thursday that 30-year-old David Mahan and 32-year-old Renee Peterson of Putnam were arrested Wednesday. Details of the charges weren’t released. Putnam police say Peterson called 911 on the morning of March 26 to report that the boy was unresponsive and not breathing. The dispatcher gave Peterson instructions on how to perform CPR, but the boy was pronounced dead at Day Kimball Hospital.
Peterson was arrested in Putnam. Mahan was arrested in Douglas, Mass., and will be extradited back to Connecticut.
It’s not clear if the couple have lawyers. Peterson was held on $25,000 bail and was to be arraigned Thursday in Danielson Superior Court.

Connecticut State Police said Thursday that 30-year-old David Mahan and 32-year-old Renee Peterson of Putnam were arrested Wednesday. Details of the charges weren’t released. Putnam police say Peterson called 911 on the morning of March 26 to report that the boy was unresponsive and not breathing. The dispatcher gave Peterson instructions on how to perform CPR, but the boy was pronounced dead at Day Kimball Hospital.
Peterson was arrested in Putnam. Mahan was arrested in Douglas, Mass., and will be extradited back to Connecticut.
It’s not clear if the couple have lawyers. Peterson was held on $25,000 bail and was to be arraigned Thursday in Danielson Superior Court.

No word here on whether dad MARQUIEZ PRATT had his visitation "rights" by court order, or whether these weekend visits were at the discretion of the mother. However, it is also the case that mothers are under intense pressure to "co-parent" and "share" with the father, even if he is a criminal and/or a casual sex partner who never had any demonstrated commitment to her, any subsequent children, or raising a family together. The results are often tragic, as these guys are just not bonded with these kids.
Fatherhood programs that encourage these guys to get "involved"--through legal fights if necessary--do not address the problems of families. If you want to be a family man, then stay out of prison, marry the mother, and get a job. Patchwork programs that pretend you can attain the results of a stable family without actually creating one are just so much hogwash.

Marquiez Pratt, 20, was originally charged with child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance. He was released from jail on Feb. 26, 2013 after posting a $50,000 bond.
Pratt was arrested after his son, Jaiden, picked up a gun on the morning of Feb. 24, 2013 and accidentally shot himself at an apartment in the 13500 block of Northborough Drive. When Houston police arrived, they found Pratt outside holding his son. Paramedics tried to revive the child, but Jaiden was pronounced dead at the scene.
When police searched the apartment, they allegedly found cocaine and marijuana inside. The gun that killed Pratt’s son was also discovered to be stolen, police said.
Pratt said he was asleep when his son found the gun, but a neighbor disputed that, saying she heard adults arguing immediately before hearing the gunshot.
Jaiden lived with his mother, but sometimes visited his father on the weekends, detectives said.
A warrant has been issued for Pratt’s arrest.

Custodial dad, step kept starving 5-year-old son in locked closed under stairs (Harris County, Texas)
It's obvious that BRADLEY BLEIMEYER is a custodial dad, although the reporter fails to report that fact openly. What is NOT discussed at all is why a criminal with a "string of prior convictions" (notice that we aren't told what they are), a thug who was currently out on bond for burglary, managed to get custody of a young child.
As we have said ad nauseum, whenever an abusive father has custody of the victim, we must ask what happened to the mother. Is she dead? If so, do we know it was from natural causes? Did she "disappear"? If so, did Daddy have something to do with said "disappearance"? Or did he manage to gain custody through the family courts? If so, who made the decision to let this sicko have total access to a vulnerable child? Let's see some explanations, folks.

A father and pregnant stepmother have been arrested after they allegedly kept their five-year-old son locked under the stairs.
Police discovered a locked closet with a mattress after being called to a home following a disturbance last Thursday between Bradley Bleimeyer, 24, and his 16-year-old stepson.
The teenager had allegedly objected to his younger stepbrother being kept under the stairs at the home in Spring, Harris County, Texas.
The child's stepmother Tammi Bleimeyer, 33, had fled the home with the boy before officers arrived, according to click2houston.
Bleimeyer, who is six months' pregnant, refused to return to the home when contacted by police. She was tracked to a motel in Humble by her cellphone where she was found with the boy.
The child was taken to hospital where he was treated for a large cut on his back, bumps and bruises and severe malnourishment.
He remains at Texas Children's Hospital where Child Protective Services have applied for emergency custody.
Tammi Bleimeyer was charged with endangering a child and released on $2,000 bond.
Bradley Bleimeyer, who was already out on bond for a burglary charge, was also charged with endangering a child.
The 24-year-old, who has spent time in jail and has string of prior convictions, is being held without bond.
Bradley Bleimeyer is the biological father of the five-year-old. His expectant wife is the biological mother of six children including the 16-year-old boy.
All the children are being cared for by family but CPS is expected to gain custody shortly. The health of the other children is currently unknown.
Assistant Chief Deputy Mark Herman told Kens5 he had never seen anything like it in his 30 year career.
'He was severely under nourished, bone sticking out, bumps, bruises. His skin was coming off on his back. It's a horrific horrific situation,' he said.

A father and pregnant stepmother have been arrested after they allegedly kept their five-year-old son locked under the stairs.

BEAVER FALLS (KDKA) — Ayende Crawford’s arrest two years ago was hard to forget.
He was taken into custody as his girlfriend was giving birth to their daughter.
Crawford, also known as Ayende Solomon, was holding his girlfriend’s hand at Heritage Valley Health System’s Beaver Hospital when he was cuffed by deputies and taken from the delivery room.
The baby was born minutes later.
At the time, Crawford was on Beaver County’s Most Wanted Fugitive List for aggravated assault, DUI, drug possession, unlawful restraint and reckless endangerment.
Last Sunday evening, in the 500-block of 17th Street in Beaver Falls, police noticed a blue Audi with illegally-tinted windows.
“Tried to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation,” said Chief Charles Jones, of the Beaver Falls Police. “The vehicle failed to stop.”
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Ayende Crawford, took off. With lights and siren, police gave chase, blowing through stop signs and down one-way streets, the wrong way.
When Crawford finally pulled over, he exited with his hands up.
In the back of the Audi, officers found Crawford’s 2-year-old daughter, Naliah. The toddler was in a car seat, but not buckled in.
“[She] became sick because of the excessive speed of the vehicle, bouncing around in the vehicle,” said Chief Jones.
Finding the little girl after the chase took police by surprise.
“Very scary, especially based on the fact that the officers at the time, when they were trying to stop the vehicle, didn’t realize there was a child in the vehicle till afterwards,” Chief Jones said.
Police allegedly also found marijuana and crack cocaine on Crawford.

(KMOV.com) -- Authorities in Illinois have charged a father with child endangerment and domestic battery after police allege the man was involved in a domestic disturbance that happened in front of his children.
Caseyville Police said they were called to a domestic disturbance in progress at the America’s Best Inn in the 2400 block of Old County Inn Drive Thursday, February 6. Police said the suspected father fled the scene as officers arrived.
Then just after midnight, police said the suspect returned to the hotel where he was arrested.
Authorities have charged Derius Johnson, 24, with five counts of child endangerment after police allege Johnson’s five children witnessed the domestic disturbance.
Johnson was also charged with two counts of domestic battery and one count of criminal damage to property. Johnson is being held in the St. Clair County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

When Oklahoma City police arrived at the Will Rogers Court apartments off SW 15th St., they found that 12-year-old girl, her dog and all of her luggage sitting on the porch.
OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City father is in jail, accused of throwing his young daughter out in the cold on Christmas day.
Oklahoma City Police found that girl wearing only a tank top and sweat pants - and the temperature outside was well below freezing. The police report states that girl is only 12 years old and was visiting her father from Texas. As it turns out she was the one who actually called 911 for help.
When Oklahoma City police arrived at the Will Rogers Court apartments off SW 15th St., they found that 12-year-old girl, her dog and all of her luggage sitting on the porch. All she was wearing was a spaghetti strapped tank top and sweat pants and small blanket her father had tossed out to her in the cold.
The report states the temperature at the time was 29 degrees and the ground was covered in ice.
"I think it's horrible," said Tiffany Aguirre.
Aguirre lives in the area where the girl was reportedly found. The young mother just wishes she would have known, and says she would have helped by taking the girl in.
"I just heard a lot of screaming on Christmas Day," said Aguirre.
"That's a major concern, that's a major concern," said Eric Biggers, who also lives in the area.
As a father, Biggers can't believe a parent would ever do something like that to their own child.
"No child, or even an animal, should be treated inhumanly or unjust," said Biggers.
In the end, police arrested 41-year-old Labaren Gerrad Bartholomew, after he initially slammed the door in the officer's face. The report states he tried to make excuses for throwing his daughter out in the cold. But these parents say, there's no excuse in the world that would justify his actions.
"Look after your kids, take care of your kids," said Biggers. "God blessed us with those children for a reason and not just a season."
Police did place the young girl in protective custody until her mother could show up for a show cause hearing. Her father is now facing one count of felony child endangerment. He is being held in the Oklahoma County jail on $10,000 bond.
