Dad with history of domestic violence, assault arrested in death of 2-year-old daughter; fatal assault apparently took place during dad's visitation time (Grand Rapids, Michigan)

Read this carefully, and it becomes clear that Daddy's girlfriend and the child's mother are not the same woman. So it appears that once again, we have a custody/visitation-related murder by a father who never should have been allowed access.

What is is the wisdom in placing a mere toddler with a father who has a history of domestic violence and assault, including criminal convictions?

Was this arrangement court-ordered? If so, who ordered it?

Or was Mom pressured into letting this criminal have contact with a two-year-old girl because "every child needs a father" propaganda?

Dad is identified as DESHAWN THREATS.

Father behind bars in conjunction with death of 2-year-old daughter

Updated: Wednesday, August 14 2013, 11:57 PM EDT

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 21-year-old man is behind bars in connection with the death of his 2-year-old daughter.

Grand Rapids fire fighters and paramedics responded to a home in the 600 block of Fourth Street NW just after 9 a.m. A neighbor tells News Channel 3 the little girl had been riding her tricycle outside the day before but this time she was laying in the front yard as emergency crews tried to revive her. The woman says the toddler was lifeless and had bruises on one side of her face.

Police arrested her father, 21-year-old DeShawn Threats, for two outstanding warrants. Authorities say he will be charged with 2nd Degree Child Abuse.

Threats is no stranger to police. According to the Internet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT) maintained by the state, Threats has been arrested at least four other times. He's pleaded guilty to arson, domestic violence and assault, among other things.

The neighbor tells News Channel 3 she heard Threats and his girlfriend fighting often. She says he smashed his girlfriend's car window and broke an apartment window about a month ago.

Police say the toddler's mother was also questioned but it is unclear where she is now.

Detectives are still investigating. Police say any additional charges against Threat will depend on that investigation and what might come from the autopsy. There's no word yet on when that autopsy will take place.
