SNYDER — Police shot and killed a knife-wielding man Saturday morning after a standoff lasting nearly two hours ended with the man charging at one of the officers.
An autopsy is scheduled for today on the body of David Dale Rivera, 52, who was threatening to kill his girlfriend, his child and himself Saturday morning.
Rivera was pronounced dead at Cogdell Hospital in Snyder.
The incident is still under investigation today.
According to a news release from Snyder police Chief Terry Luecke, the police dispatcher received a call at about 7:45 a.m. Saturday that man was making threats to kill himself, his girlfriend and his child.
First officers on the scene saw Rivera standing outside a residence in the 500 block of 27th Street holding a child, later identified as his year-old son, and a knife.
When police arrived, Rivera went back inside, but continued to make threats to kill the child and himself.
As the standoff continued, Rivera continued to make threats and officers saw him brandishing the knife in ways that appeared to threaten the boy.
At about 9:35 a.m., Rivera came to the front door and “made a comment about which officer to go after,” according to the news release.
He then set the child down, and ran with a knife in each hand directly at an officer. He was shot as he approached the officer.
Dad is identified as DAVID DALE RIVERA.
