MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile police said detectives arrested the father of a 4-month old child, after U-S-A hospital employees alerted them to a case of possible child abuse.
Police arrested 21-year-old Brock Olison on Tuesday and charged him with aggravated willful abuse of a child, he has since been released from Metro County Jail.
Detectives were called by USA Children's and Women's Hospital staff Friday, whom recognized the signs of abuse in the child's injuries.
“The mother apparently she was at work or away from the house, came home and found the child would appear to be lethargic and vomiting and that's when she decided to take it to the hospital to get checked on,” said Corporal Christopher Levy, spokesperson for the Mobile Police Department.
Levy described the injury as a closed wound; the type of injury caused by shaking a child.
Detectives contacted Olison and interviewed him.
“And we were able to determine he was responsible for the actions,” said Cpl. Levy.
There’s no word Wednesday from the hospital on the child's condition, but police say he will stay with his mother.
“DHR was notified and they have determined that the mother is going to be able to take the child as long as he doesn't have any contact with Mr. Olison,” said Cpl. Levy.
Staff members at Olison's Mobile apartment community were surprised by the news, they said he was quiet and seemed like a good father.
