NESHANNOCK TWP. – A 27-year-old man is in custody on suspicion that he brutally beat his 3-month-old son.
Craig Underwood, of 81 Shenango Road, Neshannock Township, was being held Monday in Lawrence County Jail awaiting arraignment on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and child endangerment.
Neshannock Township police said officers were called in Friday by Lawrence County Children and Youth Services to investigate a report that a 3-month-old boy had been abused.
The boy had sustained a broken skull and multiple facial injuries, which police said were believed to have happened Nov. 5, when Underwood was alone with the child.
Police said an examination revealed that the boy had broken ribs and a broken leg, which were beginning to heal. According to police, those injuries had been sustained days, or even weeks before the incident in which the child suffered the head injuries.
The boy was treated at an area hospital and is recovering at home, police said.
