"Pervert" dad kills mom, abandons young children at murder scene; but dad praised as "very nice" by neighbors (Bordentown, New Jersey)

Once again, I have to wonder. Just how bad do you have to get before the public will finally acknowledge that you're a crappy father?

From the evidence I see below, dad JOHN HAVENS III was a creepy pervert (masturbating while rubbing up against women around a shopping mall) who murdered his wife after "an argument" and abandoned two very young children at the murder scene. And despite the claims that the children were "unharmed," we know from other cases like this one that these motherless children will be dealing with trauma issues for years.

And yet all we hear from the utterly Clueless Neighbors was that he (and his wife) were "very nice."

Well, maybe SHE was very nice.

More suburban idiocy at it's finest. Don't assume you know people just because they waved to you once while mowing the lawn. If you're ignorant, maybe you should just stay quiet.

Notice that this stupidity is almost exclusively reserved for domestic killings. Had this guy entered a factory and murdered a supervisor, nobody would be quoting the neighbors on what a nice guy he was.

Cops: Bordentown mom & dad dead in murder-suicide, leave children ages 1 & 3 Published: Wednesday, January 05, 2011

BORDENTOWN TWP. — The bodies of a father of two and his wife — apparent murder-suicide victims — were found early Wednesday morning by her parents who had arrived at the house to babysit their little children, ages 1 and 3.

Authorities identified the pair as John W. Havens III, 30, and Kerry Havens, 29. The family of four had recently returned to the Garden State after vacationing in Disney World, neighbors said.

Mr. Havens is identified in police reports from Aug. 10, 2008, as the man arrested at Sears in the Quaker Bridge Mall that Sunday afternoon after allegedly masturbating as he followed women customers around and rubbed up against one of them.

The outcome of that case could not be determined Wednesday night, and authorities didn’t say whether it had anything to do with Wednesday's tragedy.

Nor would they say what the couple might have been arguing about. Details of the deaths — or about who had killed whom — were not being made available to the press pending autopsies by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood, likely to be performed Thursday.

“At this point, there is no reason to believe the deaths were caused by a third party,” reported County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and Township Police Chief Frank Nucera in a press release.

The discovery was made at 7 a.m. at the beautiful township home off Route 130 at 41 Tantum Court — a relatively new neighborhood described by residents as "peaceful" and "quiet." Two BMW vehicles were parked in the driveway and some lights were on inside the house Wednesday night, leaving no obvious sign that an apparent murder-suicide occurred there.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the couple had an argument resulting in one spouse killing the other, then committing suicide,” reported Bernardi’s spokesman, Joel Bewley.

Neighbors were stunned.

A woman who lives several houses away said the Havens family “used to be a very nice couple, walking in and out with strollers for the children. They were very quiet and very nice. I am really upset. They never bothered anyone. They only do their own jobs.”

Another neighbor said John Havens was a mechanic and his wife a nurse.

“It is really shocking to hear that something this horrible happened in this neighborhood,” the woman said. She asked that her name not be published.

Nextdoor neighbor Pete DiDonato said the slay-suicide "is hard to believe, because they were just like soulmates. ... Since high school, they've been together. ... And you just don't think something like this could happen, especially in this neighborhood."

A neighbor who would only identify himself as Ronnie told The Trentonian he was "shocked" by the incident because John and Kerry Havens "were pretty close" and "seemed so happy. I don't know what happened."
