8-month-old girl in critical condition, dad in jail; second baby to be "allegedly" assaulted by dad in less than 24 hours (Genesee County, Michigan)

Dad COREY YEAGER has been jailed after his 8-month-old daughter was hospitalized in critical condition. Dad has basically admitted to shaking the baby for crying.

Notice that this incident was only one day after another baby was admitted to the same hospital for violent shaking injuries--also "allegedly" at the hands of her father, DEANGELO ANDERSON. That baby has now died.

The prosecutor says this is "tragic." I'd say it's an indictment. Aggressive young men should be out working and supporting their families, and not doing infant "care." Frankly, I'm starting to wonder if it wouldn't be better to get these guys into a Roosevelt-style WPA program rather than letting them play Mr. Mom at home. Don't we have some roads and bridges that could be repaired, especially in Michigan? I'd rather be having these dads break up rocks than breaking up baby skulls.

8-month-old girl is in critical condition, father is in jailWednesday, January 19, 2011

GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -- (01/19/11)--An 8-month-old baby girl is in critical condition while her father sits in jail, facing one count of first degree child abuse.

Corey Yeager, 21 and of Genesee Township, was charged in court Wednesday, accused of shaking his daughter and causing serious injuries.

Tuesday, another father -- 19-year-old Deangelo Henderson -- was charged in the death of his 4-month-old daughter.

For the second time in just three days, a baby girl was brought to Hurley in critical condition. One died Sunday. The other baby was brought there Sunday and is still clinging to life in intensive care.

"There was a 911 call," said Genesee Township Police Department's John Mullaly. "Paramedics went there and then we got a call from CPS saying that they suspected child abuse."

Yeager was charged. Arraigned by video Wednesday, he told the magistrate he's unemployed and lives with his parents, sisters and girlfriend. Investigators believe his daughter was injured in that same home.

"The baby was crying," Mullaly said. "Through conversation, he admitted that he basically shaken the baby."

"It's another tragic case," said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.

Tuesday Leyton charged 19-year-old Deangelo Henderson in the death and abuse of his 4-month-old daughter Nahari. She was taken to the hospital with internal injuries Friday afternoon. Police say her injuries were likely the result of being violently shaken.

"I can't remember two cases like this back to back," he said.

In Yeager's case?

"Right now we have a first degree child abuse charge, 15 years," Leyton said. "If the baby does not make it, it becomes a murder case. That's life without parole. That's a possibility, I'm told."

Police Wednesday afternoon said she was on ventilator. They say it is touch and go at this point.

At last check, Yeager was still in jail. Bond was set at $50,000.
