Lawyer: Dad in custody fight who threw infant son off bridge won't be convicted of murder; mom was denied restraining order (Middletown, Connecticut)
We've posted on this case before. True to the Dastardly Dads axiom, lots of backstory is being "forgotten" as this case goes to trial. Namely that TONY MORENO had fought this mother for custody and had a history of domestic violence. And that the judge who denied the mother's restraining order and subsequently set up this murder actually had a name: BARRY C. PINKUS.

Father who allegedly threw son off bridge rejects plea; lawyer says jury won’t convict him of murder
Posted 5:47 PM, May 17, 2016, by Samantha Schoenfeld and Laura Roberts, Updated at 12:33pm, May 18, 2016
MIDDLETOWN--The Middletown father who police say threw his son off a bridge has rejected a plea deal offered by prosecutors.
Tony Moreno is accused of killing his 7-month-old son Aaden on July 5, 2015 when he is said to have thrown the child off the Arrigoni Bridge, and then jumped off the bridge himself.
He was charged with murder and murder of a victim under the age of 16 and is being held on a $2 million bond.
Moreno's lawyer, Norm Pattis, met with prosecutors in the judge's chambers on Tuesday to discuss a plea deal, however, negotiations broke down.
Now the case is expected to go to trial in January. Pattis told FOX 61, "The state wants to settle this case on terms we think are ridiculous. We're confident that a jury will not find Mr. Moreno guilty of murder and we'll take our chances at trial."
Pattis could not tell us the terms of the plea because it could be prejudicial during sentencing, but he called the number "obscenely high."
Tony Moreno in court Last July, FOX 61 obtained a series of text messages exchanged between Moreno and the baby's mother, Adrianne Oyola, who had a restraining order out against Moreno weeks before the murder, but it was not extended at a hearing days before Aaden's death.
The text messages showed Moreno's mindset in the minutes before the incident.
Pattis said, "The jury will hear from Mr. Moreno about what actually took place on the bridge that night, not what police officers browbeat him into discussing in the wake of his child's death. No one should be subjected to a custodial interview when they watched their child go over a bridge and tumble to their death, yet this is what passes for law enforcement etiquette in Middletown. I'm looking forward to cross-examining those officers."
"We will unpack in studious detail what happened in the interrogation of Tony Moreno and a jury will decide whether what police got him to say is what happened or whether what Mr. Moreno will testify to is what happened," said Pattis.

Custodial dad suspected in murder-suicide involving 10-month-old baby (D'Iberville, Mississippi)
Though the article below doesn't make it clear, this one does clarify that UNNAMED DAD was in fact custodial, that the baby lived with dad and the grandparents. Not one of the articles I have seen on this apparent murder-suicide explain what happened to the mom, how an emotionally unstable father got custody, or who gave him custody.

Police: Child found dead, father dead in apparent suicide
Published: Wednesday, May 4th 2016, 4:28 pm
EDT D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - An investigation is underway in D’Iberville involving a dead 10-month-old and a father who apparently hung himself from an apartment stairwell.
Police Chief Wayne Payne said police and medical crews were called to the Landmark Apartments on Lamey Bridge Rd. around 4:10 a.m. Wednesday. Payne said first responders found the child dead on the floor of an apartment.
According to police, the child’s grandfather woke up his son around 4 a.m. to tell him the 10-month-old was unresponsive. Payne said the grandfather found the child on the floor and called 911.
According to the grandfather, his son hysterically ran out of the apartment while they were waiting for police to arrive.
Payne said police searched for the father and found him hanging from the stairwell of an adjacent apartment building a short time later.
The man was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead.
“Anytime an infant child like that dies, it's tragic. It is a tragic event and we hate to see things like this, said D’Iberville Police Department Capt. Marty Griffin. "We’re working, looking to find the answers and the reason why.”
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove expects to perform an autopsy Thursday to determine a cause of death. He said right now, this is being treated as a homicide investigation.

Abusive dad unhappy about child custody defies restraining order, murders three (Jacksonville, Florida)
So if dad MURRAY LANCASTER violated a restraining order and had been arrested for battery and resisting arrest, then WHY was he able to run around and murder three different people? Why wasn't his @$$ parked in jail where it belonged? It's because Florida is notoriously indifferent to domestic violence. No surprise that this batterer/killer also tried to use a custody battle to further extend his abuse/control--that's what abusers and killers do.
No doubt there are some sick fathers rights people out there arguing that this poor little spree killer was "driven" to it. But then they have never met a violent criminal they didn't just love to pieces.

Florida Shooting Suspect Dead After Allegedly Killing Ex-Wife, Ex-Girlfriend and Her Father By Lucy Westcott On 5/3/16 at 3:30 PM
Three people were shot dead in Green Cove Springs, northern Florida on Tuesday. A manhunt for the suspect, identified as Murray Lancaster, is underway. A man in northern Florida on Tuesday allegedly abducted his ex-girlfriend from Keeping It Classy beauty salon and then later shot to death the woman and her father as well as his ex-wife before turning the gun on himself.
During a manhunt for the suspect, Murray Lancaster, 41, SWAT teams surrounded a property in Green Cove Springs, about 33 miles south of Jacksonville. Lancaster’s body was found by officials inside a camper trailer. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Lancaster allegedly abducted his ex-girlfriend, Valorie Short, on Tuesday morning at around 9:45 a.m. after holding her and her co-workers at gunpoint. He then drove her to an area near the Magnolia Point Golf & Country Club, where Short’s father, Welland “Buddy” Short, was encouraged to meet them. Lancaster shot and killed them both, Florida news outlet WFAA 8 reports, before driving to the Rosemary Hill Road Landfill, the workplace of his ex-wife, Erica Green, where he allegedly shot and killed her.
According to Jacksonville news outlet News4Jax, one of the victims was pregnant. Valorie Short is believed to have two young sons and Green also has two young children. Green was engaged to another man, according to local news.
Lancaster is the nephew of Scott Lancaster, a former sheriff of Clay County, and is also related to Larry Lancaster, a former Clay County commissioner. Officials did not have contact with Lancaster before he killed himself, though Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said he went to a local school to try to say goodbye to his children. A teacher at the school told police Lancaster was not able to see them.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Beseler said Short had a restraining order against Lancaster. The suspect, who was last week fired from the Georgia-Pacific Mill in nearby Palatka, recently violated the court order filed against him by Short and was arrested for her battery and for resisting arrest.
The motive in the shooting is still unknown, but Beseler said it involves a “domestic-type situation where divorces and child custody” were involved.
“The incident is over and everyone is safe at this point,” said Beseler. “This is a terrible and tragic event for our community.”
Also on Tuesday, a separate, unrelated shooting occurred in nearby Palatka after a man allegedly shot his girlfriend in the parking lot of the local health department. The woman, whose name has not been released, was killed and the shooter was at-large.

Dad in "custody battle" kills two daughters in murder-suicide (Pima County, Arizona)

Arizona dad who fatally shot two young daughters two days before Christmas has died
BY Keri Blakinger / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS / Friday, December 25, 2015, 10:53 AM
The Arizona dad and National Guard member who killed his two young daughters in cold blood has died, officials said.
Levi Parker, 37, murdered the children, MacKenzie Lee Parker, 8, and Haylee Parker, 5, in the midst of a custody battle with his estranged wife, according to a report.
Deputies were called to the Parker home at Veranda at Ventana Condominiums around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, after the girls’ mother received a threatening phone call.
"He made statements to her that basically led her to believe this was her last chance to talk to the kids alive," Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said, according to KNXV-TV.
When they arrived on scene five minutes later, deputies “attempted to talk to a male inside the residence from outside the front door,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. “Soon after, deputies heard one gun shot and they forced entry into the home. Inside, they found the father and two daughters, all with gun shot wounds.”
MacKenzie died at the scene, while Haylee died at a local hospital and Parker was on life support until he died Thursday at Banner University Medical Center, according to KOLD-TV.
Nanos said that Parker and his wife were having legal problems and that on the day of the shooting the girls were visiting their father. They’d been separated for three months and were involved in a divorce case.
The girls’ aunt, Joan Parker, told the Arizona Daily Star that Parker was trying to get custody and that he was unhappy his wife had a new boyfriend.
“He did not want another man with his girls,” she said. “I personally think he’s been through so much in the military, almost 15 years. He could have developed PTSD or some kind of mental condition.”
Just a month before the killing, Parker posted on Facebook MacKenzie’s Christmas list, which included everything from a horse to chocolate to a guitar.
"This is tough," Nanos said. "It's a couple hours before what's supposed to be the best day in the world for little kids... our community lost two little ones."
A neighbor told KOLD that the incident has been “the talk of the community” while another said, “It completely blindsided us. Like we were home and it sounded like someone pounding a nail on a board."
The girls’ family released a statement on Thursday.
“Please keep our family in your hearts and prayers in our unimaginable grief,” they said.

Dad kills 2-year-old daughter in murder-suicide; is this a custodial situation? (Cudahy, Wisconsin)
The family structure isn't explained here, but notice that there is no mention of a wife/mother in the home or anywhere else. Just various "relatives." Also notice that the little girl had a different last name, which is fairly rare in a married situation. So it sounds very likely that Daddy had some kind of access/custody.
Dad is identified as BRETT HARMON.

Family reacts to father, toddler killed in Cudahy murder-suicide
Relatives cope with news that father, 27, killed his two-year-old daughter
UPDATED 9:00 AM CST Jan 01, 2016
CUDAHY, Wis. —UPDATE: The Cudahy Police Department has released the names of family members involved in the killing.
While responding to a family member's 911 call, officers found Brett Harmon, 27, dead at 3723 Whittaker Avenue residence. The child, Skylan Hartman, was also found and transported to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
A GoFundMe page is now up to raise money for Skylar's unexpected funeral costs.
Cudahy police say father shot and killed his 2-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself overnight. Now, relatives of the toddler are coping with the news of her death.
Police got the call around 1:40 a.m. from a woman in a home near Whittaker and Kirkwood avenues.
When they arrived, the father, 27, was already dead.
The child was later pronounced dead at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
"We're all just shocked and really sad," said Kaitlin Monroe, cousin of the toddler who was killed. She doesn’t understand what would have lead the father to commit such a heartbreaking act, so close to the child’s birthday, no less.
“Her birthday party was in two days, and we're all just really upset because she was gonna be three, and we just don't get why he would take her life too,” Monroe said.
Cudahy police and the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office are still investigating.

Police: 'Unspeakable Tragedy' as 5 Family Members Found Dead in Greenwood Home Updated: 09/10/2015 9:42 PM Created: 09/10/2015 1:36 PM

A family of five, including three children, are dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a home on the south part of Lake Minnetonka, police said Thursday.
South Lake Minnetonka Police were called to the home, located on the 20000 block of Channel Drive in Greenwood, at 12:21 p.m. Thursday. It's just off St. Albans Bay.
According to interim police chief Mike Siitari, police were called to the home on a welfare check when no one was seen or heard from for several days and the children missed school.
Siitari said the public is not in danger. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office was processing a "complex crime scene," he said.
"Obviously it's an extremely tragic event and it's going to take some time to sort through," he said.
Sources tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that the bodies of the deceased were found scattered in various rooms throughout the house.
Police declined to release the names, ages, or manner of death of those killed or who might have been the killer.
Brian Short's business posted a notice online saying the victims were Brian Short and his three children, Brooklyn, Cole and Madison. Brian Short is the founder of AllNurses.com.
“It is with great regret and a very heavy heart that I have to share some very sad news with you. There is no easy way to say this. ... Brian and his family have been killed. The news is calling it an apparent murder-suicide. ... No matter what the details are, the results are still the same ... a very tragic loss for the extended families, friends, co-workers and this nursing community,” the message reads.
Hennepin County property databases list the house as registered to Brian and Karen Short, who had three children.
The incident happened at an upscale home in Greenwood, a tiny village of just a few hundred people on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, about 20 miles west of Minneapolis.
Greenwood Mayor Debra Kind said she did not know the family but called it "very upsetting news."
"I hope that people who have suicidal thoughts get help, because this is a tragedy that is not necessary," she said.

Custodial dad suspect in stabbing deaths of three young sons (Los Angeles, California)
UNNAMED DAD. I wonder if we know for a fact that the mother died from natural causes....

3 brothers found stabbed to death in LA; dad is suspect
Associated Press
By AMANDA LEE MYERS 24 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A father repeatedly stabbed his three young sons to death with a knife in the back seat of their car outside a South Los Angeles elementary school Wednesday before it's believed he turned the blade on himself, police said.
The father, said to be in his 30s, was found in his car bleeding from stab wounds to the chest, his dead sons in the back and a knife in the passenger seat. The boys, ages 8 to 12, were pronounced dead at the gruesome scene.
The father, whose name was not released, is the only suspect in the killings, police said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and will be arrested if he survives his wounds, Los Angeles Police Officer Matthew Ludwig said.
The motive was unclear and is being investigated. The father had no history of domestic violence charges or arrests, police said. "These are horrific incidents," police Chief Charlie Beck said.
"These are incidents that have scarred not only a community but the first responders that have to handle them."
"It is a sad day in LA," he said.
John Sorrentino, whose furniture store is next to the crime scene, said he was the one who first spotted the bloody scene and called 911.
"I saw this man behind the steering wheel covered in blood," he said. "I got a little bit closer, and I saw a young child in the back seat and his eyes were half open and he was covered in blood.
"He was staring out, just in space. It's still etched in my mind."
Sorrentino said he then saw another motionless boy bent over a seat, and in the back, a leg of the third boy lying upright. That's when he ran inside his store and called 911.
The three boys did not attend the elementary school next to the crime scene, Beck said, but they are enrolled in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Beck said the boys' mother is deceased and that their stepmother was safe and being interviewed by detectives.
It was unclear whether the boys lived with their father.
The deaths come as homicides are on the rise in Los Angeles. In August, 39 killings drove a year-to-date uptick in murders in the nation's second-largest city, according to police statistics. The 39 killings in August are compared with 22 the previous month and 19 last August.
Daniel Avalos, who works for Sorrentino and has five children between the ages of 3 and 12, said he saw paramedics pulling the man out of the car and one of the children still in the back.
"We're in South-Central, so stuff like that kind of happens around here. But the fact that it's children — that's heart-wrenching," Avalos said. "It's hard to think about."

Dad murders 5-year-old son, 11-year-old daughter during child custody time (Henry County, Indiana)
Lots of little code words here by which the mainstream media disguises the murder of a violent father with child custody rights.
"Difficult divorce" generally means a history of domestic violence and child abuse that we won't come out and admit.
The fact that the murders were discovered when school officials reported that the kids hadn't shown up reveals that the father, AT MINIMUM, had joint custody, not just weekend visitation.
And notice that one of the neighbors reports not being surprised. That means that even people outside the home knew he was potentially dangerous.
So who gave dad JOSEPH HORN his custody "rights" despite all this? We need names.
This is not atypical for Indiana, which is a very big fathers rights state.

Father, two children found dead inside Henry County home

HENRY COUNTY - Authorities have confirmed the bodies found in a Henry County home Thursday are a father and his two children.
The Henry County prosecutor says 48-year-old Joseph Horn died of a gunshot wound in the home in the 5500 block of W. Old National Road.
That's about 1.5 miles east of Knightstown and a half-mile south of US 40. Horn's five-year-old son, Thomas Cordell Horn, and 11-year-old daughter, Corinne Nicole Horn, were also found dead in the home.
Thursday night, there was overwhelming grief at the overwhelming crime scene.
Near dusk, 10 hours after the killings, investigators finally prepared to remove the bodies from the home.
Authorities were first alerted to a problem when the school called to say a child failed to show up for classes.
Police came to the home, looked into the window, and saw the little boy lying dead on the floor.
The bodies were found in different rooms of the house, according to the sheriff.
The cause of the children's deaths is not being released at this time.
Police say there is no evidence of any subjects at large.
The deaths come after what has been called a difficult divorce between Joseph Horn and his wife.
"I can't say, really, what I've been told the past few weeks. I just don't want to go there, but I guess I'm not really shocked, knowing what I know," said one neighbor.
"Right across the street is unreal to me. How anyone can do that, I wouldn't know," said another neighbor.
"My husband and I really like the place. We thought if we ever won the lottery, we'd buy that house."
Now a crime scene, the house was a mile marker on Kate Imel's country walks.
"Very surprising and shocking. We don't have that around here," Imel said when hearing of the horror that took place inside the home.
"I can't imagine a mother losing a child. I think about my kids and it's like, 'How am I supposed to live without a child?'"
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

2 Children Witness Father Kill Mother, Self: Police
Updated at 9:54 AM CDT on Thursday, Aug 6, 2015
Authorities in suburban Houston said a man shot the mother of his children as the two were transferring custody of their boys and then turned the gun on himself.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the couple had recently separated and met Wednesday evening at a convenience store in The Woodlands so that one could hand over their two boys to the other.
Authorities said the children witnessed the shooting, as did others at the store at the time. KHOU-TV in Houston reported one boy is 14 and the other 11.
The man died at the scene and the woman was transported to a hospital where she later died. Neither has been identified.
The boys were not physically harmed.
Dad kills two sons in botched murder-suicide (Statesville, North Carolina)
The usual woo-woo what-a-mystery crap coverage.
We have the Clueless Neighbor swearing that dad SHAWN FULLER was a "pretty decent guy." Just can't "imagine" the father doing such a thing.
Seriously? Why does the media still interview the Clueless Neighbor?
At the very end, we find out that the police had been called to house for a "domestic dispute" before. So there is no mystery. This is totally typical. "Good guy" face to the outside world, terror for Mom and the kids inside the home. I'm sure that one police appearance was merely the tip of the iceberg.

Sheriff: Man fatally shot 2 sons, botched suicide attempt
An Iredell County man killed his two sons before attempting suicide early Sunday morning, authorities say.

STATESVILLE, N.C. -- A man fighting for his life in the hospital will face two first-degree murder charges if he pulls through after deputies say he killed his two sons, each under the age of 5, before shooting himself in the head.
Shawn Fuller, 31, was found outside his Iredell County home Sunday morning by Sheriff's deputies.
The whole ordeal is still hard for neighbors like Rogelio Castro to comprehend. "I can't imagine my father doing something like that," Castro said. "To a bunch of kids."
Castro has a 3-year-old brother and 5-year-old sister who each played with the Fuller boys: 3-year-old Josiah and 4-year-old Uriah when the Fuller family would come up the road to their house. "No, he (Shawn Fuller) seemed like a pretty decent guy," Castro said. "Every time he came over we'd shake hands."
But Shawn Fuller is about to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Deputies say he shot his two sons multiple times early Sunday morning before turning the gun on himself.
Sheriff Darren Campbell says it's been difficult for his first responders to deal with.
"It's traumatic, it's not something you want to see," Campbell said. "A lot of them are parents and a lot of them have young children. And to see two young children just killed in the manner such as this-- somewhere that they didn't have no option but to be."
Fuller is at CMC Main in critical condition. Campbell says if he survives, he'll head straight to jail.
"He will not leave the hospital without being in our custody," Campbell said.
Campbell says the weapon Fuller used was his wife's, which she had hidden in the house. She and Fuller's brother were the two who called 911.
"Obviously they're upset, especially the mother," Campbell said. "She's in a safe location now."
Castro said his mother used to babysit the two Fuller boys. He says his entire family is in shock. "
They're just kids," Castro said. "How can you do something like that?"
Sheriff Campbell says they did respond to a domestic dispute call to the home back in May.

SHELTON — Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a 17-month-old child was found dead next to their 52-year-old father Thursday night in Mason County.
Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call from a woman around 6 p.m. Thursday, asking that deputies check on her estranged husband and two small children at their home in the 700 block of E. Road near Lake Limerick.
The 32-year-old caller told police she recently separated from her husband, and was growing concerned about the welfare of her children since she couldn’t reach him on the phone. She told deputies her husband grew despondent following their separation.
Deputies responded to the home and smelled a strong odor of gasoline right outside the door, deputies said. When they entered, they found a 4-year-old boy sitting unharmed in the living-room area. The boy was escorted out of the home and reunited with his mother.
Further into the home, deputies found the 52-year-old father, identified as Sean Durcan, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A 17-month-old child was found dead beside Durcan, deputies said. The manner of the child’s death was not immediately released.
Deputies are investigating the deaths.

Jacques Martin sensed something was wrong with his longtime friend Rafal Zembowicz when he recently received a text message from him that seemed completely out of character.
Martin had called Zembowicz to inquire about a fence around a duplex Zembowicz still owned with his wife, somewhere in Montreal, despite having moved away from it to a single-family dwelling in Anjou last year. Because Zembowicz didn’t answer the phone, Martin left his former neighbour and co-worker a message. He hoped Zembowicz would return the call so they could also catch up, but instead Zembowicz sent Martin a short text message asking “Why don’t you ask the co-owner?” It was a very cold way for Zembowicz to refer to his wife.
“I knew then something was wrong. He had never done that before,” Martin said on Monday while standing outside the home in Anjou where, according to police, Zembowicz killed his 10-month-old son Adam before taking his own life on Sunday.
A 10-month-old baby was killed Sunday, July 5, 2015 by his father, who then took his own life. Neighbour Nicole Rouillard, in Montreal, on Monday, July 6, 2015, was surprised when she was told that the couple was splitting up.
The text message, sent a couple of weeks ago, caused Martin to ask mutual friends what might be going on and he learned Zembowicz and his wife had separated. (According to court records, the couple officially filed for divorce on June 30.) On Friday, Martin asked a mutual friend how Zembowicz was doing.
“I said tell me seriously, are things going so bad that they are separated?”, Martin recounted, adding the mutual friend said Zembowicz wasn’t talking to anybody.
“I said I should call him but (the mutual friend) said it was useless, he wasn’t answering his phone.”
The fact that he had become unapproachable left Martin puzzled. He described Zembowicz as a very nice person who was very easy to talk to.
“This is difficult to understand, above all because there is a child involved. I find this is terrible. If things aren’t going well I can understand (if someone takes their own life). But leave your child, leave your family out of it. I don’t understand it. Sometimes we can’t get into the head of a person.”
Zembowicz, a supervisor of maintenance staff at a downtown condominium complex, and his wife moved out of the duplex and into the home in Anjou last summer with their three children.
Soon after the family moved in, Zembowicz went out of his way to apologize, in advance, to his next-door neighbour Nicole Rouillard about any noise he would make while renovating the house on Des Vendéens Ave. Rouillard said Zembowicz wanted to have the house ready by last September because he and his wife were expecting.
Rouillard said Zembowicz told her last summer that he was happy to have finally moved his family into a single-family dwelling with their own lawn and backyard.
“When he (renovated) the house it was to stay, he said it was permanent. He said sometimes he bought houses, repaired them and sold them afterwards. But this one he said ‘no, this one is for keeps’,” Rouillard said.
After Adam arrived, neighbours noticed that Zembowicz’s wife would take their son out for strolls in a carriage during the day and Zembowicz would do the same during evenings.
Rouillard said there were no outward signs that something was wrong until a “for sale” sign suddenly appeared in front of her neighbours’ home just weeks ago. She said Zembowicz’s wife approached her to explain the sign and informed her of the divorce.
“She said they’d been living together for 20 years. Things were rough and she had enough and she wanted out of this marriage. Before that it looked like they were in love and everything looked fine,” Rouillard said. “He used to pass by the front of our house but since he put up the (for sale) sign he avoided us. He didn’t come over to talk to us like he used to.”
Another sign of trouble, Rouillard said, came in the form of a police car parked outside the home on Thursday. The next sign was on Sunday, when another police car showed up.
Montreal police spokesperson Constable Anie Lemieux said the infant’s death is considered the 14th homicide reported on the territory covered by the police force so far this year. She said it appears Zembowicz took his own life after having killed his son. Investigators paid particular attention to a half finished shed in back of the home where a baby carriage could be seen next to the back entrance.
Lemieux also said the baby boy’s mother had to be taken to a hospital to be treated for shock.
Quebec has been witness to several similar tragedies in recent years. Last week, Boucherville resident Michel Dubuc is believed to have killed his two adult sons before killing himself inside his home. He is also believed to have fatally shot a lawyer he was suing for $1.2 million and a notary who was in the law firm in Terrebonne at the time. Neighbours said Dubuc had been sharing custody of his sons with his wife following their divorce in 2002.
Last year, Thierry Patenaude-Turcotte, a 42-year-old man who was involved in a custody battle over his 21-month old son, appeared to place his sport utility vehicle in front of a moving train in St-Liboire. The collision killed the father and his son.

Dad shoots 6-year old, 2-year old kids, their mom in murder-suicide (Roy, Utah)
The usual stupidity in reporting. The fact that the (suburban) neighbors observed nothing out of the ordinary is actually more typical than not. In reality, very few of these suburban abusive males are anything but "nice" or "polite" as the neighbors see it. That means nothing.
That Mom (presumably) never called the cops means nothing either. Most victims don't.
That doesn't mean Dad just "snapped." These family annihilator guys almost always have a history of escalating abuse and control issues that are usually invisible to people outside the family.
Dad is identified as RUSSELL SMITH.

Family of four shot dead in Father’s Day murder-suicide
By Associated Press June 22, 2015 | 4:07pm
ROY, Utah — A Utah family of four was found shot to death in their home in what authorities believe is a murder-suicide, police said Monday.
Officers discovered the bodies of Russell Smith, 29; his wife, Shawna Smith, 26; and their children, 6-year-old Tylee and 2-year-old Blake on Sunday night. It appeared Russell Smith shot himself, and investigators were not looking for any suspects, police Lt. Kevin Smith said.
The department received a 911 call about an assault at 10 p.m. Sunday from a relative who stopped by the house in Roy, a city about 32 miles north of Salt Lake City.
There was no history of police responding to the home near Roy High School, Smith said. Investigators talked to family members and were trying to uncover a motive.
The relative who discovered the family decided to come by the house after failing to hear from anyone there since an afternoon text message, said Smith, who is not related to the family. He declined to specify the person’s relationship to the victims or what the text message said.
Neighbor Lynn Everley, 68, said the Smiths were a quiet, young family, and he had never heard any fights or seen any indication of problems.
Everley said Russell Smith worked in the nearby city of Ogden at a company that recycles outdated military supplies, while Shawna Smith worked at a child care facility. Everley said the family lived in the home for at least several years — as long as he had been in the neighborhood.
“They’re a couple that you would never have expected this to happen,” Everley said. “But then, what makes a person snap?”

Dad who abducted, murdered 1-year-old son had shared custody; protective mom had wanted sole custody, but lost (Urbandale, Illinois)
This is not good reporting. With any understanding of domestic violence and narcissistic personality disorder, you would not make the error of calling this a "troubled relationship" involving a father who "cared for his son."
First of all, there was nothing that was "troubling" about the "relationship" as such. Mom clearly tried to be responsible and do the right thing. She was dealing with a man who could not/would not hold a job, was unreliable, moved in an out of the home on a whim, and ultimately created (unspecified) "domestic disturbances." (I assume that this is a euphemism for domestic violence that the reporters can't bother to follow up on.) No charges followed (typical). So at any rate, the problems clearly laid with the father. Not mom. Not "the relationship."
Mom tried to protect her baby from this unreliable deadbeat and likely abuser by seeking sole custody, but her efforts were defeated. She got stuck with shared custody instead. Needless to say, abusers very typically use "custody disputes" as a way to create anxiety and stress for the mother, especially when the child in question is merely a baby or barely verbal toddler.
The fathers rights people insist that any father with a pulse--no matter how violent, addicted, or crazy--should get joint custody at minimum. (Of course they prefer full father custody so women will be afraid to divorce them, but they don't like that brought out too often in mixed company.)
The predictable result: Daddy's still Not Happy. The self-centered, narcissistic deadbeat dad abducts the 1-year-old son, a baby really, Despite showy displays of affection that fool the babysitter (and very often other people as well), the man is incapable of real love or real empathy for another human being, even his own infant son. Like all sociopaths, he sees people only in terms of how they suit him and feed his narcissistic sense of entitlement. Right now, his only motivation is to punish the mom in the best way he knows how. And that is destroying her baby in a fiery inferno.
This is why fathers like this CAN'T be appeased with joint custody or any move that reinforces their sense of entitlement over other human beings.

Amber Alert mom: 'What he did was terrible'
Grant Rodgers and Danielle Ferguson, 9:49 a.m. CDT June 11, 2015
HARRISON COUNTY, Mo. – Sheriff Josh Eckerson stood looking at the burned-out remains of a sport-utility vehicle, unsure of what he was seeing.
In the driver's seat was the charred body of an adult — along with what looked like a much smaller body that Eckerson dearly hoped wasn't what he thought.
"I really couldn't determine what it was," he said. "I didn't want to believe it."
When the Amber Alert came about 41/2 hours later from the Urbandale Police Department, Eckerson's fears were realized. He was a witness to the tragic ending to the lives of a 9-month-old boy and the father who abducted him hours earlier and more than 100 miles away.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Jake Angle confirmed Wednesday that the bodies in the vehicle are believed to be little Logan Habibovic and his father, 33-year-old Elvis Habibovic.
Harrison County Coroner Jeremy Eivins said it could take 30 days or more to determine the cause of death because of the condition of the bodies.
But authorities found hosing near the vehicle, leading investigators to believe the two likely died from carbon monoxide poisoning from exhaust fumes, Eckerson said.
Investigators are continuing to look for answers behind the abduction and deaths. Logan's baby sitter and family friend Angela Charlier said Habibovic's relationship with Logan's mother, Melissa Zeimet, disintegrated last weekend over concerns about money, and he was forced to leave the Urbandale apartment they shared.
"I think he was very depressed," she said. #The baby sitter mourned Wednesday over the boy she'd cared for almost daily. Logan learned to crawl at 6 months. He was tall and skinny for his young age, Charlier said.
"He was pulling himself up on furniture," she said. "He was good at it. He just took off." #Logan would have turned 1 in August.
The abduction timeline
Habibovic picked up the boy around 11 a.m. that day, saying he just wanted to take his son on a walk, according to Charlier and a timeline released by police.
Zeimet called and spoke with Habibovic around 4:15 p.m. to be sure Logan would be home by 8 p.m.
Zeimet called Urbandale police at 8:19 p.m. to report the boy missing. It was only 30 minutes later that authorities in Missouri found a burned-out vehicle at the rural Grand Trace Conservation Area, 10 miles northwest of quiet Bethany, Mo. A passerby on a nearby highway had called the sheriff's department to report a plume of smoke.
Through the night before learning about the fire, Zeimet sent Habibovic frantic text messages, she said Wednesday. At 9:12 p.m., she texted, "How could you?"
Later, at 12:08 a.m., she sent, "If u bring him back safe and sound we make this all go away and you won't have any trouble."
"It was too late," Zeimet said in an interview. "They were already dead."
It would take about five hours before law enforcement in the two states connected the dots. Unaware of the gruesome discovery to their south, Urbandale police got authority to send an Amber Alert at 1:19 a.m. warning law enforcement to be on the lookout for Logan and Habibovic, who were likely traveling in a black 2003 Land Rover Discovery.
Missouri authorities saw that the charred vehicle matched the description from the Amber Alert. A vehicle identification number found on its frame confirmed their suspicion, said Eckerson, the county sheriff of 21/2 years.
Everything else, including the license plates, was destroyed by flames.
Urbandale police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol believe the remains of an infant and adult found in a burned vehicle are related to the Amber Alert issued early Wednesday morning. near Bethany, Missouri. Rodney White/The Register
"When we got the Amber Alert ... then I thought, 'This is probably what we're looking for,' " he said.
At 2 a.m., Eivins arrived and confirmed the second body was a young child's. Around the same time, Missouri authorities called Urbandale police, and two highway patrol officers immediately drove to the Des Moines suburb to do interviews and gather dental and DNA records for comparison.
The state fire marshal's office took evidence from the scene to determine whether any accelerants were used to fuel the fire. The SUV was taken away around 5 a.m.
Investigators are trying to determine how Habibovic and his son ended up in the parking lot of the 1,500-acre public hunting and fishing area, which is so isolated that Eckerson had to lead local responders through the turns, hills and rough roads to the vehicle.
At the site of the fire, a patch of blackened gravel remained and a nearby tree's leaves were singed up to about 15 feet above the ground.
"It's just hard to try to wrap your brain around someone, not only a parent, but any individual who would want to harm a child," Eckerson said. "An innocent individual who hasn't done anything, who really has just started their life. To do this is unbelievable."
#Troubled relationship
The parents met about a decade ago through a friend Zeimet knew at Iowa State University, she said.
Even before Zeimet got pregnant, Habibovic moved in with her in 2013 when he needed a place to stay, she said. It started a pattern: He'd move in with Zeimet for a few months at a time before leaving.
Most recently, he came back to the Urbandale apartment in late April after losing his job with Ankeny-based G & I Trucking, Zeimet said.
"He texted me and said, 'I just got fired, take good care of Logan if I don't make it home.' " Zeimet convinced her child's father to take a Greyhound bus back to the metro and move in, she said.
When she got pregnant with Logan, Habibovic was clear that he wanted her to have the child, she said. It was obvious when the two were together that the father cared for his son, Zeimet said.
She has pictures on her phone of the two together on Memorial Day, and Habibovic holding Logan behind the wheel of the Land Rover that they both died in Tuesday night.
His final act, though, was selfish and evil, Zeimet said.
"Maybe he wasn't a terrible person," she said. "But what he did was terrible."
Zeimet had to force Habibovic out on Sunday after fighting about money, she said. After losing his job at the trucking company, he was making less working for a construction company, she said.
Urbandale police visited Zeimet's Carole Circle apartment Sunday and Monday in response to a report of an "unwanted guest," records show. On Monday, Habibovic had come over claiming he needed a quick shower, but stayed for hours, Zeimet said.
The couple had other tensions in their relationship, records show.
In November, the mother filed a petition in Polk County District Court seeking sole custody of Logan, a move Habibovic initially opposed.
That same month, Urbandale police twice responded to calls at Zeimet's apartment — one for a welfare check and the second for a domestic disturbance. No incident report was taken on either call, according to police records.
Before the parents worked out a shared custody agreement in February, Habibovic successfully asked for a court-ordered genetic test to establish paternity of Logan.
There was an outpouring of condolences in 92 comments on Zeimet's Facebook page after she announced her son's death around 5 a.m.
"This is gut-wrenching," one commenter wrote. "I can't imagine the pain you are facing. Be strong."
Charlier remembered Logan as a happy baby. His active personality led his mother to call him a "little monkey," she said. A photo of Logan sticking his tongue out that was released with an early morning Amber Alert perfectly captured his personality. #He liked stuffed animals and blankets with monkeys on them.
"He always had his little fist in his mouth," Charlier said. "He was very loved."
"He laughed at everything and he was a happy baby," Zeimet said. "He was easy … it was like nature gave me this amazing baby." -- Reporter Danielle Ferguson contributed to this story.

Dad killed two kids, their mom in murder-suicide (Kenai, Alaska)
Once again, a family in total denial that a male member of their family would slaughter a woman and children.

Missing family likely died in murder-suicide, Kenai police say
Megan Edge| June 3, 2015
Findings from the State Medical Examiner Office suggest a family of four, missing on the Kenai Peninsula for nearly a year before their remains were discovered in March, were the victims of a murder-suicide, Kenai police said Wednesday.
In a release, the Kenai Police Department said the findings are consistent with findings from their own investigation and that of the FBI, which indicate that “Brandon Jividen shot and killed Rebecca Adams, Michelle Hundley, Jaracca Hundley, the dog Sparks and then committed suicide by shooting himself."
The mystery surrounding the family's disappearance may have come to a close, but family members said Wednesday they’re far from finding closure.
“We thought there would be closure when we buried them,” Rebecca Adams’ uncle Dennis Gifford said. “But no. I don’t even know what closure is.”
The family went missing on May 31, 2014.
Family, friends, volunteers and law enforcement searched for months for signs of their whereabouts but came up empty-handed -- until March, when remains were discovered in a low, grassy area about 15 yards off a trail packed down for vehicles and four-wheelers.
On Wednesday, police said investigators found two handguns “in close proximity” to Jividen’s remains, five spent shell casings and fired bullets.
Rebecca Adams’ aunt Kim Gifford said when the family went missing, a conclusion like this was “the furthest thing” from her mind.
“As we learned more information, this path was one we saw, but we prayed it wouldn’t be it,” Dennis Gifford said. “Brandon’s mom and sister have become a part of our family and we love them dearly. We hoped none of this would happen.”
The Kenai Police Department said any theory about a motive at this point would only be “speculative.”
In a statement, the family of Jividen expressed condolences to the families of Adams and the Hundleys and said the result of the investigation "was not what our family had anticipated."
"These acts are unthinkable, unimaginable, and not consistent with the father, son, brother, and friend that so many of us knew and loved," the statement said.
Kenai police declined to provide any additional comment on the case Wednesday.

Dad slaughters three kids, their mother in murder-suicide (Anaconda, Montana)
Typical narcissistic control freak abuser. Considered women and children little more than objects to be kept or destroyed as the mood strikes. Notice the subtle attempts to blame Mom--she was supposedly "mocking" him. I'm sure in his mind that meant any attempt to assert any personality at all. No surprise that other articles have reported that Daddy abused his previous wife. I'm sure had a history of violence with this family too. But really, how was the mother going to get away or seek help from this location? For all we know, she may have been trying to get away with the kids when he decided to slaughter them like rabid dogs

Police identify Mont. family killed in murder-suicide
ANACONDA, Mont. -- A southwestern Montana man told an acquaintance that he shot his family and planned to kill himself because his wife had been "mocking him and riding him all day," law enforcement officers said.
Anaconda-Deer Lodge Police Chief Tim Barkell on Tuesday released the names of all five people killed in a quadruple murder-suicide Sunday morning in a log cabin miles from any neighbors in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.
The shooter, he said, was Michael Augustine Bournes. Bournes, 59, previously lived in Taos, New Mexico. His wife was Arie Arlynn Lee, 37. The children were identified as two boys -- 5-year-old Augustine and 4-year-old Woodrow -- and a 1-year-old girl, also named Arie.
Police believe Bournes first shot his wife in the kitchen and his infant daughter in her crib before he walked outside and shot the two other children about 20 feet from the cabin, Barkell said.
All five died of single gunshot wounds to the head.
Bournes carried the bodies inside and laid them on a bed, placing their young sister's body in between the brothers, Barkell said.
Bournes called an acquaintance to tell him he shot his family and was going to kill himself. He set fire to a chair or a sofa, then laid down next to the children's bodies and shot himself in the head with the .45 caliber handgun.
The acquaintance called 911 and told officers that Bournes "said his wife had been mocking and riding him all day. That's all he said," Barkell said.
Officers didn't find any evidence in the cabin that revealed why Bournes shot his entire family, and Barkell said he planned to close the case after tying up "a few loose ends."
Police and firefighters had difficulty finding the remote cabin, and had to put out the fire before entering and finding the bodies.
Barkell said Bournes was a handyman who had constitutionalist and anti-government literature in his pickup truck. He said the family moved to the area about three years ago and was virtually unknown to any county officials or law enforcement.
Neither of the adults had full-time jobs, and Bournes performed odd jobs for people such as plumbing and logging, Barkell said.
Bournes bought the 20 acres of land between five and seven years ago, said Steve Kamps, who sold the remote mountain property. Anaconda-Deer Lodge officials said Bournes never filed the deed from the sale and did not apply for the permits required for the cabin he built in 2013.
County officials didn't realize anybody was living there until officials performing assessments in the area came across the cabin last year. County planning director Doug Clark said that happens more often in the off-the-grid location than county officials would like.
"There are people out there who would just prefer their solitude," he said.
County officials sent Bournes a letter saying he needed certification for the home, but Bournes did not respond, Clark said.
Officials only realized children were living there when somebody called and asked whether the county would plow the road so the kids could be transported into town for school and daycare, said Clark and Heather Edwards, the county CEO's executive assistant.
Barkell released the family's names Tuesday after notifying Bournes' relatives in New Mexico along with Lee's mother and her brother, who lives in Spokane, Washington. The brother was headed to Montana on Tuesday, Barkell said.
Blood stains and spent 45-caliber shells were found outside the cabin, indicating the two boys were shot outside, Barkell said.
The cabin sits in the middle of a sprawling property with semitrailers, tents and tools scattered across several acres. Fire officials circled the cabin with police tape, though gawkers were scarce. The shootings are the first homicides in the county in two years.
"This is the biggest body count I've had since I've been here," said Barkell, who has been in law enforcement for 27 years.

Violent dad was scheduled to appear in court for child support, but killed 1-year-old daughter, her mom instead (Chesterfield, Virginia)
Where do you start with a vicious criminal like STANDFORD SHAW, who murdered his 1-year-old daughter, her mother, and two other innocent people?
Why were the previous charges of arson and murder dismissed?
Why was his previous conviction for assault not taken seriously given the previous allegations of arson and murder?
Given this history, why did it not raise a SERIOUS RED FLAG when he is choking the mother of his infant daughter, when choking is a HIGHLY RELIABLE INDICATOR of future homicidal behavior? What fool thought that tossing Mom an order of protection and giving dad weekend jail time was a good sentence for a chronically dangerous man like this?
So Daddy shoots to death a BABY and the baby's mom, and kills two other people when he crashes his car.
There was clearly a record of escalating violence here which the authorities ignored since it "only" involved women and children.
Then what is the crap about having Daddy pay child support, as if he were some ordinary father going through a divorce? Absolutely dangerous move, as this is the sort of trigger that sets these guys off on a killing spree. Again, he should have been in prison rather than providing him with additional reason to "get revenge" against this innocent baby and her mom.

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - We now know more about the father accused of murdering his estranged girlfriend and their daughter in Chesterfield. Stafford Shaw's violent past is being revealed in court records.
He died after crashing his car while leading police on a chase on I-295. Two people in another car also died.
Now Shaw's family is speaking out and say there is more to the story.
Shaw was actually due in court this Friday for a child support hearing involving Leah, 1, his daughter and the youngest victim. And court documents show there was a history of violence with Leah's mother and another woman.
Months before police discovered the bodies of Morgan Rogers and her daughter Leah inside their Matoaca home, there was this protective order against Leah's father, Shaw. A criminal complaint says Shaw had "...grabbed (Morgan's ) throat and began choking her and bit her nose" and "She blacked out." Shaw was serving jail time on weekends for the assault.
On Friday, police say he murdered Morgan and Leah. He died after leading police on a chase and crashing on I-295.
"I cried out because that's my little," says Shaw's brother Charles Scott. "I know he had did some things but he is still my little brother bottom line, he is still my brother." Scott says his brother wanted to get back with is wife which upset Morgan. Before the crash, Scott says Shaw was on the phone with their sister. "This is what he said: She shot the baby as he was holding her and then the hurt from that, he shot her," says Scott. "There's no way he would have killed the child, there's no way."
But Chesterfield police say evidence shows Shaw shot his estranged girlfriend and their daughter to death. We asked if Scott ever thought his brother was violent. "That's not a side that we've seen," says Scott.
But according to court records, Shaw was found guilty of assaulting another woman seven years ago. In 1989, he was accused of murder and arson in Richmond, but that case was dismissed.
Scott says he would have told his brother to turn himself in.
Funeral arrangement for Morgan and Leah Rogers have not yet been made public.

Trabuco Canyon Community Attempts To Heal After Murder-Suicide Involving Child

TRABUCO CANYON (CBSLA.com) — A Trabuco Canyon community is attempting to heal after a murder-suicide there Wednesday during a SWAT standoff.
Authorities said Luis Guillermo Arizmendi, 41, murdered his 3-year-old son Sebastian and then killed himself.
The man and his son lived in a home with his wife and an infant daughter on Swallows Lane.
CBS2’s Michele Gile on Thursday spoke to devastated neighbors.
She also spoke to neighbors who said the suspect had an explosive temper.
“Basically, I just said ‘You just keep to yourself and stay with your family and leave my family alone,’ ” said neighbor Al Perin.
He told Gile he had had a run-in with Arizmendi a few weeks ago.
Perin and his wife said they have long been concerned about Arizmendi’s wife and two small children.
“Whenever you see a situation where an individual appears to be so angry they don’t want to communicate with their neighbors and any communication you get is one of confrontation, you have concern for your own family as well,” Perin said.
SWAT had responded to the home after a call about domestic violence just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
A 911 hang-up call was traced to the residence.
Neighbors said they saw the man’s wife run down the street holding their 18-month-old daughter.
Arizmendi was reportedly holed up in a bathroom with the boy and holding a handgun.
Neighbors said they were afraid of Arizmendi, and police had been to the home on other occasions.
“We would be very scared,” said Isabella Perin, “and we saw the cops there two weeks ago doing a welfare check. We didn’t know if it was for him or her, but we figured out it was her, from her work, checking on her.”
A group of seventh-graders affected by the tragedy sold lemonade and cookies Thursday to help the survivors.
“We just wanted to do something that could shed light on this rainy situation and make everyone smile in a situation that brought us all down,” said Reagan Hayes.
Gile reported that members of the Stonecliffe community plan to tie ribbons around trees to remember the two who died and in support of the mother and daughter who survived.
Police said Arizmendi was unemployed and the family moved frequently.

Another UNNAMED DAD. Another clueless neighbor who thinks domestic violence has something to do with location rather than abusive men, who can live anywhere.
