By Brian Smith Register News Writer
A father and son accused of trafficking in prescription painkillers are set to go on trial in October.

Clee Blankenship, 56, and his son, Steven, 27, were arrested in January following an investigation into alleged sales of hydrocodone and methadone from their home in the 300 block of Harrison King Lane in Berea.

The Central Kentucky Area Drug Task Force had conducted four controlled purchases using an informant in December 2008 and January 2009, and found 38 methadone pills, 150 hydrocodone pills, two handguns, empty pill bottles and the cash used in the buys when executing a search warrant at the home.

Clee Blankenship faces four counts of first-degree trafficking in controlled substances, while Steven faces a single count. Both men also are charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

A two-day trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 7 in Madison Circuit Court with Judge Jean C. Logue presiding. A status conference in the case is set for Sept. 10.
