Police arrested a father and son on gun and narcotics possession charges after the two ran from police in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood, according to authorities.

Lawrence Martin, 49, and Lawrence Martin Jr., 30, were arrested at the corner of Eddy and Gough streets on Aug. 13 around 10:40 p.m., police said.

Two members of the San Francisco Police Department's Specialist Violence Reduction Team were near Polk and Eddy streets when they received word of an armed man in the area, according to police.

They saw the elder and younger Martin at Eddy and Franklin streets, and one matched the description of the armed man that had been reported, police said. The two suspects ran west on Eddy Street, toward Gough Street, when they saw the patrol car.

One officer got out of the car and chased the elder Marin, according to police, and detained him at Eddy and Gough streets. The officer who was driving used the vehicle to block the younger Martin's path on Eddy Street.

A loaded handgun that had been cocked was found at the 900 block of Eddy Street, where the younger Martin was first spotted, according to police. The elder Martin had rock cocaine in his pocket when he was arrested.

The elder Martin was charged with possession of narcotics and parole violation, and the younger Martin was charged with a convicted felon possessing a prohibited firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a loaded firearm.

Police are investigating whether or not the two were involved in a robbery on the 300 block of Hyde Street.
