As typically happens, news articles don't commonly come out and say that a child abuse situation involved custody/visitation. But this one clearly does. The parents do not live together. Daddy beat this child within one inch on his life, then dumped him at Mom's house. He later died in the hospital.
As often happens, there is no explanation here as to whether dad DANIEL COX had court-awarded custody/visitation rights, or whether Mom was just trying to accomodate him by providing him with visitation "willingly"--perhaps to avoid a custody fight with a violent man, who are often remarkably adept at getting custody.

A Kentucky man charged in his four-month-old son's beating death has been found competent to stand trial in the child's slaying.
Daniel Cox, 35, was determined mentally able to stand trial following a psychiatric evaluation by experts at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center.
Cox is charged with murder-domestic violence in the death of Jayceon Chrystie last summer.
Court records state that witnesses called 911 on August 6 after seeing a man driving down a highway beating an infant in a car seat.
Cox left the unresponsive Jayceon with the baby's mother, Kimberly Ann Chrystie, who called police. Authorities say the child was black and blue, had no pulse and his eye was swollen shut.
Jayceon died two days later at a hospital. Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bob Fraction said the cause of death was 'inflicted traumatic injury to the head.'
Witness Dena Stevenson told WLKY-TV back in August that she and her husband grew concerned and called 911 after they saw a man, later identified as Daniel Cox, hitting a child in a car seat several times in the head and chest while he was driving his gold Mercury Grand Marquis in Radcliff.
About 15 minutes after officers began searching for the car, police received a call from Kimberly Ann Chrystie's home.
In a court filing, Chrystie said Cox, who did not live with her and their son, returned the child 'all beat up' after having him for only a couple of hours.
Emergency medics tried to resuscitate the baby, who was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital.
Police wrote that Jayceon's left eye was swollen shut, his right cheek was swollen and he had 'major bruising on his back and buttocks.'
Daniel Cox has been held in the Grayson County Detention Center on $500,000 cash bond since his arrest six months ago.
The News-Enterprise reported he is due back in court for a pretrial conference on April 26. The date of his trial has not been set yet.

A Northern Kentucky father is accused of violently shaking his infant, causing severe injury including hemorrhaging to the 3-month-old baby's brain.
Casey Radcliffe, 24, of Independence, is in the Kenton County jail, facing a charge of first-degree assault.
His next court hearing is set for Oct. 15. Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders said Wednesday that, because of the infant's grave condition, he anticipates going through with the preliminary court hearing rather than going directly to a grand jury to seek an expedient indictment.
"I'm waiting to see how the child responds to medical treatment," Sanders said, adding that, if the boy, "God forbid, doesn't make it," the case could become a murder case rather than first-degree assault.
The first-degree assault charge carries with it a 10- to 20-year sentence.
The baby boy, whose name is Raiden, is in Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in critical condition.
A warrant for Radcliffe's arrest issued Saturday states that the father caused a "grave risk of death" to the baby.
The warrant states, even though Radcliffe saw his child's physical reaction right after shaking the baby, the father put the infant in his crib rather than seeking medical help. Several hours later, when the mother returned home, she called a doctor after seeing her distressed infant. The doctor directed her to take the baby to Children's Hospital.

As police searched for a man seen driving down a Kentucky highway beating an infant in a car seat, Daniel Cox pulled up to Kimberly Chrystie's home, handed her their 4-month-old son and sped away, police say.
Jayceon Chrystie was black and blue and unresponsive; he had no pulse and his eye was swollen shut.
The baby died two days later, and Cox has been charged with his murder.
Cox, who did not live with his son, had asked the baby's mother, Kimberly Chrystie, if he could take the boy out for a visit Thursday, according to court records. They were gone for two hours.
Just before 7 p.m., a family called 911 to say they saw a man in a gold Mercury Grand Marquis repeatedly hitting a child in a car seat as he drove along a highway in Radcliff, about 45 miles south of Louisville, according to court records.
Dena Stevenson told WLKY-TV that she and her family drove behind the Grand Marquis for miles, and it looked like the man was beating the child in the head and the chest.
Officers began searching for the car.
Fifteen minutes later, Cox arrived at the infant's mother's home. She frantically called police.
"He dropped my child off almost two hours later, beat up all black and blue," she wrote in a request for a protective order she filed against Cox Friday. "I called 911 as soon as I seen my son."
Jayceon was not breathing and had no pulse, court documents show. Police wrote that Jayceon's left eye was swollen shut, his right cheek was swollen and he had "major bruising on his back and buttocks." His injuries were "consistent with a child being assaulted and abused," police wrote in the arrest warrant."
As emergency medics tried to resuscitate the baby, officers tracked Cox to Louisville, said Radcliff Police Capt. Willie Wells. He was arrested on an assault charge.
The baby, taken to a hospital in Louisville, was removed from life support Saturday night. Cox was charged with murder.
Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Robert Fraction told The Associated Press on Sunday that Jayceon died of an "inflicted traumatic injury to the head."
Cars lined the driveway and street outside the baby's mother's house Monday. A relative there said they were preparing funeral arrangements and declined to comment.
A judge set Cox's bond at $500,000 Monday, appointed a public defender for him and ordered him to return to court on Friday.

Dad pleads not guilty to beating 4-month-old son to death, apparently during custody/visitation (Jefferson County, Kentucky)
The parents were obviously not together (i.e. reference to the father returning the baby to the mother's house). So this is apparently some sort of custody/visitation situation, though we don't know if it was court-ordered.
The mother filed for an order of protection for the baby after the father's assault, but it was too late. The baby died two days later.
Wonder if Mom previously had one for herself...

A Kentucky man has been charged with beating his 4-month-old son to death last Thursday while driving.
Daniel Cox, 35, pleaded not guilty on Monday at his arraignment on a murder charge. A married couple driving behind Cox on a major highway saw him repeatedly striking his son, Jayceon Chrystie, who was seated in a baby seat in the backseat passenger seat.
When Cox returned Jayceon to his mother's house, he was not breathing and had no pulse, the police report says. His left eye was swollen shut, and his right cheek and head were also swollen, police said. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but died two days later of "inflicted traumatic injury to the head," Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Robert Fraction told the Associated Press.
Britton Stevenson, the driver who witnessed the beating and called 911, told PEOPLE he first thought Cox "was an impaired driver. Every so often the driver would swerve into the right lane of the four-lane highway."
It wasn't until he got closer that Stevenson realized he was hitting something, and so he called 911.
"The force that he was putting upon that baby, these were backhand blows," Stevenson said.
He added that Cox "seemed to get off on what he was doing. He'd hit the baby a couple times, fix his hat, and then he'd bob his head to the music. And then he'd go back and give the baby carriage another ferocious shake."
Stevenson said he has had trouble sleeping since witnessing the beating. "I'm on the edge, thinking my PTSD is gonna kick in," he said. "I have a 5-year-old grandson. I'm trying to block this out, because I feel like I could've done something. Maybe hit the vehicle."
According to court documents obtained by the Associated Press, Jayceon's mother, Kimberly Ann Chrystie, called 911 as soon as she saw her son. The next day, she filed an order of protection for her son against his father, but Jayceon died the next day.
Several hours after Kimberly called 911, Cox was arrested at the Veterans Administration hospital, Radcliffe, Kentucky, Police Chief Jeff Cross told PEOPLE. He added that cops have "been told" Cox is a veteran.
Cross said cops are investigating any criminal history Cox may have had, but he said, "I haven't been made aware of anything too significant."
"Obviously, the community is in shock," Cross added. "It's something that takes on a different meaning. Crimes against adults are bad enough, but when adults commit crimes against babies, it's hard to imagine how people can do something like this to a child."
"They're the purest and most precious part of our society. We as adults, it seems, do something every day to taint their world, in small ways and in major ways."

Custodial dad murders 11-year-old daughter while protective mom on the phone (Chesapeake, Virginia)
Daddy's sick little drama at the end here was no doubt the grand finale for a long history of abuse of all kinds--which, of course, this article doesn't explore.
He probably feared that he would lose custody. That after years of isolating this girl from her mother, and no doubt engaging in non-stop bad-mouthing, Daddy's efforts to destroy the relationship wouldn't stick.
Mother had to be punished forever! No justice, no change. Even if a little girl had to die as collateral damage in his obsessive need to maintain control and destroy the mother.
Also not a word here on what judge gave dad JOHN JONAS custody, and what court whores supported that decision. They all have blood on their hands.
Once again, chalk up a victory for fathers rights....

Those were the last words a Chesapeake mother heard over the phone before her 11-year-old daughter was murdered.
A close family friend told those details to WTKR.
Police say 11-year-old Tasha Jonas was shot by her own father, 49-year-old John Jonas, who then turned the gun on himself.
A neighbor found the bodies outside their Vine Grove home, near Fort Knox where John served as an Army Lt. Col.
“This definitely could have been prevented,” Tanja Manojlovic says, a friend of Tasha’s mother, Karina Jonas.
Manojlovic says she’s known Tasha and Karina Jonas for 10 years.
“Besides a tremendous amount of grief, there’s an overwhelming amount of anger,” Manojlovic says.
Anger, because she believes this all happened over a custody battle.
Manojlovic says Tasha moved with her father from Suffolk to Kentucky two years ago. And ever since, she says Karina fought to get Tasha back.
“Karina was fighting to tell the lawyers, the judges, the school, the social services,” she says.
A hearing was even scheduled for August, where Manojlovic says Tasha could choose which parent she wanted to live with.
“When it’s all said and done, we all look back and feel like we’ve all betrayed her in some level,” she says. “The system has betrayed her.”
Police have not confirmed a motive and they’re still waiting on autopsy results.
However, loved ones say those results won’t bring Tasha back.
“It hits home,” Rachel Given says, who worked with Karina. “Somebody personal, somebody you’ve known for eight years, watching her grow up and then now nothing. She won’t grow up.”
Family friends have organized a gofundme page to raise money needed to bring Tasha back home to Virginia.

A man and his daughter were found dead in Hardin County in what police called an apparent murder-suicide Monday night.
Kentucky State Police say officers and firefighters responded to a report of multiple gunshot victims and found the bodies of John Jonas, 49, and his 11-year-old daughter lying in a side yard at a home along Willow Crossing Court in Vine Grove. Police say the investigation remains ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate it was a murder-suicide.
Officials say autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday morning.

A man and his daughter were found dead in Hardin County in what police called an apparent murder-suicide Monday night.
Kentucky State Police say officers and firefighters responded to a report of multiple gunshot victims and found the bodies of John Jonas, 49, and his 11-year-old daughter lying in a side yard at a home along Willow Crossing Court in Vine Grove. Police say the investigation remains ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate it was a murder-suicide.
Officials say autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday morning.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - WKYT is learning more about a Lexington father who is accused of shaking his 8 month old son.
According to court documents, 32-year-old Shawn Wilson has been convicted of several crimes and has been in and out of jail several times in the past 10 years.
An arrest citation states that Wilson admitted to shaking his son in frustration on Tuesday morning when the boy wouldn't stop crying, likely because he was teething.
The 32 year old was arrested on Thursday morning at Lexington Police Headquarters.
The arrest citation states that the boy suffered severe injuries, including retinal hemorrhaging in both eyes and a blood clot on the surface of his brain.
Officers say Wilson stated that he had been under a lot of stress because he had overdue bills and wasn’t able to find a job because of a previous felony conviction.
According to court records, his criminal history started back in 2005 when he was convicted of second-degree burglary and sentenced to 12 months in prison.
In 2008 Wilson was convicted to 12 years in prison on a long list of charges, including burglary.
Court officials tell WKYT that he only served 319 days and then was released from jail after he was granted shock probation.
Court documents show that Wilson was also found guilty of domestic assault and violating emergency protective orders.
We’ve learned from the Department of Corrections that Wilson completed his supervised parole in November of 2014.
The 32 year old is now charged with second-degree criminal abuse and will be arraigned Thursday afternoon.
Police say Wilson's 8 month old son is being treated for head trauma at the pediatric intensive care unit at Kentucky Children's Hospital.
We reached out to Wilson to get his side of the story but he declined our request for a jail interview.

On Saturday, KSP, Post 5, received an anonymous tip requesting that a welfare check be conducted in the 170 block of School Hollow Road in reference to a child in danger.
MILTON, Ky. (WHAS11) – A man was arrested on Feb. 7 and is accused of criminally abusing a child, according to Kentucky State Police.
On Saturday, KSP, Post 5, received an anonymous tip requesting that a welfare check be conducted in the 170 block of School Hollow Road in reference to a child in danger.
Thirty-two-year-old Darrin W. McDaniel was arrested and charged with criminal abuse in the first degree. There was an outstanding Carroll County District Court warrant for McDaniel as well.
Trimble County Social Services responded to the scene and removed the victim and two other children. The children are currently under the care of family members.
The investigation is ongoing.

Amanda Dukes, mother of 4-year-old Hayden, said, "He had a smile that lit up the entire room."
Hayden passed away on Thursday at Kosair Children's Hospital.
Police say Hayden was visiting his father, Christopher Bruck, in Underwood, Indiana, when Bruck hit the child because he was annoying him as he tried to watch television.
Family and friends came together for a memorial service at the Sun Valley Community Center in Louisville to honor his life and raise awareness of child abuse.
Hayden's mother said it was the first time the special needs child had stayed with his father.
She said she never imagined that her son wouldn't come home after visiting Bruck.
Officials are awaiting further test results before they determine Hayden's cause of death.
The Clark County prosecutor says he is reviewing the case to see if additional charges will be filed.

A 25-year-old father, whose brain-dead baby launched a weeks-long legal fight over life support, was indicted Thursday on a murder charge.
Juan Alejandro Lopez Rosales had been held in jail for six months on abuse charges, awaiting an autopsy for his 2-month-old baby, Issac Lopez, declared brain-dead July 2.
Issac, born May 1, was admitted to Kosair Children's Hospital on June 29 with a broken skull, rib fractures, respiratory failure and blood and fluid pooling around his brain, according to Jefferson County court filings.
His father at first told police he found the infant shaking on the sofa, his eyes rolled back in his head, though denied knowing how he'd been injured, according to the police report. But Lopez later admitted he hit the baby's head on a wall and the bathtub several days earlier. He said considered seeking medical treatment earlier but "abandoned efforts because the facilities asked too many questions or they were too far away."
Four doctors at Kosair concluded through a series of neurological tests that every part of Issac's brain had shut down: both the upper brain, which controls thought and voluntary movement, and the brain stem, the stalk of neural tissue that connects the spinal cord to the brain and controls involuntary actions like breathing and reflex.
Kentucky law recognizes two definitions of death. The first is cardiac arrest, the second is "total and irreversible cessation of all brain function, including the brain stem and that such determination is made by at least two licensed physicians."
Issac was declared dead on July 2. But the the baby remained on life support for 23 days, as his mother, Iveth Yaneth Garcia-Menchaca, pleaded with the court to forbid Kosair Children's Hospital from removing the machines that kept his heart beating.
Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Judith McDonald-Burkman eventually sided with the hospital, allowing doctors to terminate support.
Jefferson County Coroner Barbara Weakley-Jones said at the time she was concerned about determining the precise brain injuries that lead to the baby's death. Though the child remained on life support, a dead brain will begin to decompose, making medical analysis difficult. Weakley-Jones did not return a call this week seeking comment on the complications in deciding the child's cause of death.
Lopez is facing the possibility of life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty, if prosecutors choose to seek it.

The little boy is still at Kosair Children's Hospital fighting for his life.
His father had four words for the media as he walked into the courtroom on Wednesday. "I didn't hurt him," he said.
Christopher Bruck, 27, is charged with one count of aggravated battery.
A probable cause affidavit states Bruck admitted that last Saturday at his home in Underwood, Indiana, his son kept getting in front of his face and pulling his hand while Bruck was watching TV.
He said he hit the child's forehead, causing him to fall backwards. Bruck added the boy hit his head on the carpeted concrete floor.
He even told police he hit him so hard his hand hurt.
Family members say the boy has severe brain damage. Doctors said he had a 30 percent chance of survival.
Prosecutor Jeremy Mull said in court the condition of the child is grim and he's not expected to survive.
Prosecutors say charges will be modified if the child's condition changes.
"Anytime you have a child who obviously is a victim of a crime like this, it's a heartbreaking situation, but we will prosecute it as vigorously as we can under the law and attempt to do justice in this case ," said Prosecutor Jeremy Mull.
Bruck made a request in the courtroom to be released on his own recognizance until his trial, but that won't happen.
The judge set a $100,000 cash only bond.

We've posted on this case before. We had noted that there was a curious omission regarding the mother. And now we know why. The dad was, in fact, a single father, and the assault took place during THE FATHER'S FIRST OVERNIGHT VISITATION.
This is what happens with the triumph of fathers rights ideology. Contrary to their lies, mothers are not "gatekeepers" who are "depriving" fathers of their kids. On the contrary, mothers are being brainwashed into thinking they must include violent men in childcare functions. Even when the kids are special needs and under the age of 5. These idiots don't have the nurturing skills or patience to deal with toddlers and babies--especially if these is a developmental disability involved. So they freak out on them, like dad CHRISTOPHER BRUCK "allegedly" did.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Smiling, lively and always hungry – that's how Jessica Fields remembers her nephew, four-year-old Hayden.
"He was so happy," she said. "He's a good sweet loving little boy. It breaks my heart. The boy, he loved food. It was so crazy."
Hayden's short life so far hasn't been easy. He was born with a rare genetic disorder called DiGeorge that can result in poor development in several different ways.
"I know he's four and he don't talk," Jessica explained. "He started walking probably about a year ago. He's been through the physical training, you know all the stuff to try and get him improving. He goes to a special needs school…It would've been hard the rest of his life trying to live a normal life. Now he probably won't even say the little words he was saying. He won't be able to walk."
On Saturday night Jessica received a call from her step-sister, Hayden's mother, telling her Hayden was at Kosair Children's Hospital after he had been staying with his father, Christopher Bruck. Jessica said to her knowledge Hayden had not stayed the night alone with his father until this visit.
"[His mother] wanted so bad [sic] for Hayden to have his father in his life and I'm sure she blames herself for this happening," Jessica said.
Hayden's brain was bleeding severely and he had bruises all over his body -- injuries that doctors believed came from child abuse. Indiana State Police (ISP) questioned Bruck about the incident and eventually he was arrested for aggravated battery.
According to the arrest affidavit, Bruck was watching TV and Hayden kept getting up into his father's face and pulling on his hand. Bruck told ISP he lost control and hit Hayden in the forehead causing the boy to fall backwards and hit his head on the carpeted concrete floor. The affidavit states that Bruck said he hit the boy so hard it hurt his hand.
"He could be a vegetable for the rest of his life," Jessica said. "Only half of his brain has blood flow. The other half where he had his surgery has no blood flow…He's not going to be normal ever again. That's all we know -- ever again."
Jessica says she hopes that her nephew can somehow be a miracle child and pull through, but no matter what she wants to see justice.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with Hayden's medical expenses. He is having more tests on Tuesday and the family is hoping for some positive news.

LOUISVILLE, Ky, —Prosecutors said a 4-year-old southern Indiana boy has a 30 percent chance for survival after being abused by his father.
Christopher Bruck, 27, appeared in front of a Clark County judge Monday on charges of aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.
According to court documents, the child suffered a severe head injury and had bruising all over his body.
An arrest affidavit said the injuries were consistent with being in a high-speed car collision.
Bruck was arrested Saturday after medical personnel notified Indiana State Police about suspected abuse.
According to investigators, Bruck admitted to getting upset and hitting the 4-year-old.
The force caused the child to fall backward and hit his head on the carpeted concrete floor.
Authorities said Bruck told them the child began tilting his head to the side and crying, then fell asleep on the bed.
An hour and a half passed before Bruck called 911.
Prosecutor Jeremy Mull said, “The investigation so far has determined that the child was simply trying to interact with the defendant while he was watching television. The defendant became irritated at that and this battery then occurred.”
Mull asked the judge for a high bond, saying Bruck was a danger to the community.
The boy is being treated at Kosair Children's Hospital.
Bruck is being held at the Clark County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. He is expected back in court on Wednesday.
Mull said more charges could be filed.

Dad arrested for battering 4-year-old son; no mention of mother (Underwood, Indiana)
Is CHRISTOPHER A. BRUCK a single father? Notice that the assault took place at "Bruck's home" (not the "parents' home") and that there is zero mention of the mother here or elsewhere. What happened to Mom? Is this a custody/visitation situation? Is the mother deceased? If so, from natural causes? Does Dad have a history of domestic violence/child abuse? Lots of unanswered questions raised here.

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A fight between a husband and wife sparked a violent chain of events that landed a car inside a house and a husband and father behind bars.
The man and woman were apparently fighting over custody of their child and it led to dangerous and violent consequences.
"Kept hearing some noise and I said what is that going on," said Jerry Reis, neighbor.
Police say the noise Reis and other neighbors on Schumaker Drive in Shelby County heard was Justin Cottrell slamming into cars as he was leaving home on Monday evening.
"There was three vehicles that were actually damaged from the tirade that he went on when he was leaving the house," said Officer Todd Rankin, with Simpsonville Police.
"It wasn't over," said Reis.
Police say Cottrell eventually led Kentucky State Police on a high speed chase.
Officer Rankin said, "At a hundred plus miles an hour, my understanding."
Officer Rankin was first on the scene and says he was there when Cottrell called the home.
"And on that phone call he basically said: 'I'm going to drive through the living room of the house'. In not so nice words," explained Rankin.
Rankin says a short time later, Cottrell returned with his foot on the gas pedal.
"He then went around my cruiser and went through the grass and between the stop sign and mailbox and went airborne into the house."
Police suspect this started after a fight between Cottrell and his wife over custody of the couple's 4-year old son.
"Apparently they wanted him to leave because of his previous actions and threats that he had made," said Rankin.
"Mr. Cottrell, you're going to need an attorney, do you have an attorney?," a Shelby County judge asked during Cottrell's arraignment Tuesday.
"No, I'll need one," he replied.
Cottrell was appointed a public defender. He is facing several charges including 4 counts of attempted murder because his family and the officer were all at the home.
Rankin said, "His wife and son were in the bathroom, ah, right off of the front bedroom, his mother in-law was actually in the utility room."
Meanwhile, Jerry Reis doesn't know Cottrell well, but doesn't want him back in the neighborhood.
"Anybody who would take the chance to hurt their family like that, yeah, he doesn't need to be back here," said Reis.
Right now, Justin Cottrell is being held on a $100,000 bond.
He is scheduled to return to court on Thursday of next week.
