Drunk dad charged with neglect after 2-year-old son found a quarter mile from home (Brooksville, Florida)

I see no evidence that there was a mother in this home. Did dad RYAN CARTIER have custody, visitation, what? As we often see, the media is extraordinarily vague about what was going on here. A "family member" later "took custody" of the kids? And who was that?

BROOKSVILLE A man was charged Saturday morning with child neglect following allegations he let his 2-year-old son wander from his home.

The boy was discovered by a resident who was driving in the area of Heather Boulevard and Galloway Road, which was about a quarter-mile from the child's home, and authorities were called, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the boy's father, Ryan Cartier, 27, was awakened by his 5-year-old son and told his youngest son was missing.

A responding deputy saw Cartier by the road, approached him and noticed he was intoxicated, according to an arrest affidavit.

Cartier told the sheriff's office he was out drinking the night before and took something before going to sleep, deputies said.

A family member arrived that morning and took custody of both children, according to the sheriff's office.
Cartier was booked at 10:30 a.m. at the Hernando County Jail. His bail was set at $5,000.
