Two Texas bad dads (Austin, Texas)

These cases aren't real recent, but are on the Austin [Texas] Statesman Blotter.

Dads cited here include DERRICK DAVIS, charged with beating his 3-year-old daughter, and EDDIE THOMAS JR, charged with "seriously hurting" his 5-week-old son. Both sound like idiots.

Hat tip to E. for this one.

Man charged with beating 3-month-old daughter

A 20-year-old man who told a child abuse unit detective “I’m tired of beating up my own daughter, I need someone to help me,” has been charged with beating his 3-month-old daughter.
Derrick Davis was in the Travis County Jail today on a $100,000 bail, charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony, according to an affidavit filed today.

A detective with the Travis County sheriff’s office was called Tuesday to Dell Children’s Medical Center to investigate a report of injuries to a child. Doctors at the center found that the girl had been bruised and had a hemorrhage in her right eye, very recent injuries, the affidavit said.

An examination showed that the child’s ribs had been fractured within the past two weeks, the affidavit said.

In an interview with the detective, Davis said that while alone with his daughter on Dec. 7 he snapped when she wouldn’t stop crying. He told the detective he slapped the child and slammed her head into a wall, the affidavit said.

5-week-old seriously hurt; man charged

The father of a 5-week-old boy who suffered two skull fractures, leg and rib fractures and hemorrhaging in both eyes told a Dell Children’s Hospital nurse the child was spoiled and needed a little slapping, according to an arrest affidavit filed today.

Eddie Thomas Jr., 33, at right, was held in the Travis County Jail on a $150,000 bond charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony.

Child abuse investigators were called to the hospital Oct. 9 after nurses found bruising on the infant’s body. One of the nurses questioned Thomas and the mother of the infant, and both denied knowing how the child was injured, according to the affidavit.

When the child cried while his temperature was being taken, Thomas told the nurse, “He’s a cry baby, too spoiled,” the affidavit said. Thomas made a back and forth slapping motion in the air and told the nurse, “everyone needs a little of this and a little of that,” the affidavit said.

Thomas told a doctor she had noticed redness and bruising on the child beginning Oct. 2, the affidavit said.

After interviews in which Thomas denied injuring the child, but admitted being rough with him, police arrested Thomas on Tuesday.
