RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – The man that carved a pentagram on his son’s back in December 2012 has been committed to a mental health facility, according to the Tarrant Count District Attorney’s office.
On December 12, 2012 Richland Hills police officers were sent to a house in the 3700 block of Ruth Road after a man called 911 and told the dispatcher, “I shed some blood.” The caller, later identified as Brent Troy Bartel, went on to tell the dispatcher, “I inscribed a pentagram on my son.”
When police got to the house they found Bartel’s 6-year-old son inside the house, wearing pajama bottoms and no shirt. There was a large pentagram carved into the child’s back. Officers said the five-pointed star covered the majority of the boy’s back.
On Thursday the Tarrant Co. DA’s office announced that Bartel has previously been found incompetent to stand trial and was committed to a mental health treatment facility. The commitment order was a extended for a period not to exceed 12 months.
Bartel was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, an enhanced crime because it was committed against a family member. He is still being held on a $500,000 bond.
