NORFOLK The father of a 4-month-old girl has been charged with murder in the baby's death, police said.
Frederico L. Vick was charged Thursday, two days after the child died at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, said Officer Chris Amos, a police spokesman.
Police arrested Vick on Sunday and charged him with felony child abuse and neglect after the baby's mother, Victoria M. Mcglothlin, walked into her apartment at 800 E. Princess Anne Road and found the child unresponsive.
The baby, Skylar-Raine Mcglothlin, was taken to the hospital about 5 p.m. Sunday.
Police soon started questioning Vick, who said he was tripped by his 4-year-old while feeding the baby and fell face forward. Vick told police the baby started choking and he gave her "rescue breaths" but did not call 911.
Police asked to inspect the parents' apartment without a warrant, but they refused, according to a warrant in the case.
Vick remains in jail.
