Father charged in death of 3-month-old daughter

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Authorities have charged a Lawrenceville man in the shaking death of his 3-month-old daughter.

Emergency responders responded to the 3300 block of Sweetwater Road on Wednesday after a call from Reuben Valrie about his unresponsive daughter, Aliyana. The child was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center and was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy found "significant signs of trauma to the child's body," according to Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department. Police believe Valrie shook the child to death.

Reuben Valrie, 28, was arrested on Thursday. He is charged with murder and cruelty to children. Valrie was taken into custody without incident and remains at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
