OSAKA, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Two children were stabbed to death by their father early Tuesday morning in the western Japanese prefecture of Hiroshima according to local press.
The knife attack happened at around 2 a.m. local time when two children, 13-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter, were fatally stabbed by their father in a house in Mihara City of the prefecture, and emergency ambulance teams carried the two children to a local hospital where they were confirmed dead, the daily Asahi Shimbun said.
The report also cited local police officials as saying that the 49-year-old father has been treated for serious injuries after he also stabbed himself in the stomach with a sword whose total length is 30 cm, adding that the father would attempt suicide with his children.
The police are expected to start their investigation after the man recovers from his injuries.
