PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - A Pine Bluff father is sitting behind bars, charged with first degree murder after his infant child died in his care.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Ivory Jones, 23, of Pine Bluff has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after his infant child was declared dead Thursday morning.
Police said they were called to a home on Richard Court around 6:33 in reference to a child not breathing. Police said when they arrived, they found the child in an infant seat on a love seat in front of a television; the child was pale and unresponsive.
Police said the Jones had put him in front of the television sometime between midnight and 1 a.m. and fell asleep. Jones later woke at 6 a.m. to find their pet dog, a 3-year-old Boxer, lying on top of the baby.
Jones said he tried to perform CPR for about 5 minutes but realized it was too late, added police.
They said he then went outside to wait on the child's mother to come home from work before calling police. The sheriff's office webpage indicates that Jones is being held without bond.
