Authorities accuse a Jacksonville man of squeezing his infant daughter so tight in an attempt to quiet the girl that he fractured several of her ribs.
Salvador Nunez, 20, of Brandymill Lane, was charged Thursday by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office with child abuse inflicting serious injury and contributing to a juvenile being abused and neglected.
Nunez is accused of squeezing his infant daughter’s rib cage because she wouldn’t stop crying at his home on Brandymill Lane. The injury was discovered on June 28 during a checkup in which a doctor found the girl had healing rib fractures of the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh ribs on the right side, according to a press release from the OCSO.
Nunez went to the Sheriff’s Office Thursday morning where warrants were served on him. He was fingerprinted, photographed and took before a magistrate. Nunez was placed under a $5,000 unsecured bond and given a first court appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. today
