Father suspected of abusing newborn

A 21-year-old father was arrested Monday for reportedly fracturing the skull of his newborn baby.

Daniel Gordon Gutmaker-Otto was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and violating a restraining order.

Gutmaker-Otto was arrested at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, where he went to visit his son and mother of his child, with whom there's a restraining order barring him from contact. An affidavit said Gutmaker-Otto either "dropped" or "had deliberately thrown the baby on the floor" on Sunday night.

The affidavit said Gutmaker-Otto had been intoxicated.

The baby, who is about a month old, continues to recover in the hospital.

Gutmaker-Otto was being held in Pueblo County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
