KFDM News has obtained a Probable Cause Affidavit filed in connection with the death of a 3-year-old boy and the arrest of his father on charges of striking the child because the youngster soiled his pants.

On Friday the Jefferson County District Attorney's office charged Jakari Crout, 26, with Injury to a Child in the death of his son, Jayden Crout. Jayden died September 3 at a Port Arthur hospital.

The Probable Cause Affidavit filed by Port Arthur Police for the arrest of Jakari Crout reads:

"On 9/3/09 at 4:40 p.m. at 1909 E. 19th Street Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas, the accused had taken his 3 year old son, Jayden Crout into the house because Jayden had defecated in his pants. The accused started to discipline (to punish) Jayden with a leather belt. Sometime during the disciplining of the child, the accused struck Jayden in the chest with a closed fist, causing the child to grab his chest and fall to the ground, having trouble breathing. Jayden was pronounced dead at St. Mary Hospital. The accused admitted in a statement, 'I was mad at him for pooping on his self.'"

If convicted of first degree felony Injury to a Child, Jakari Crout could face 5-99 years or life in prison.

Prosecutors tell KFDM News they're still looking at medical records, autopsy information and police statements in the child's death.
