DENVER CITY, Texas — Authorities are searching for a 3-year-old boy and his father, a man they're calling a person of interest in the death of the boy's mother.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has issued an Amber Alert for Mitchell Romero, a 3-year-old Hispanic male with black hair. Denver City police said he was discovered missing Thursday from the home where his mother, 29-year-old Vernonica Esquivel Romero, was found dead.

A statement from police said the cause of death is under investigation.

Investigators suspect the husband, 34-year-old Mario Romero, is driving a maroon 2004 GMC Yukon with Texas license plates 434-FX6. He is a Hispanic man with black hair and brown eyes, weighing 205 pounds.

Denver City is about 80 miles southwest of Lubbock.
