Custodial dad pleads guilty to 2nd-degree murder in beating death of 3-year-old son; was "angry" about "potty training issues" (Tacoma, Washington)

Read between the lines. Dad KINGSA MCNIGHT had to be custodial, with Mom having little to no contact or visitation. Otherwise, there is no way this child could have been dying at home for 8 days without Mom knowing or intervening. So how did this violent killer dad get custody? Who gave it to him? And why was he sleeping with a 3-year-old who supposedly wet the bed?

See the Killer Dads and Custody list for Washington.

Father sentenced to 28 years for beating 3-year-old son to death over bed wetting

Posted 4:22 PM, February 19, 2016, by Q13 FOX News Staff

TACOMA — A Tacoma man was sentenced Friday to 28 years in prison for beating his 3-year-old son to death because he became angry over the toddler’s bed wetting.

Kingsa McKnight, 34, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree assault for the 2014 beating death of his son.

According to prosecutors, McKnight took his son to an urgent care center on June 13, 2014, because he was lethargic and vomiting. The nurse told him the child needed to be taken to an emergency room immediately, but instead McKnight took his son home.

Eight days later, the boy lost consciousness and his father took him to the hospital, where the child was placed on life support. Prosecutors said the boy had bruises on his head and chest, and a CT scan revealed two subdural hemorrhages and a skull fracture. Doctors determined the head injuries were inflicted just a few hours before the child’s arrival at the hospital.

Further testing revealed the boy had suffered a liver laceration and a rib fracture at different times during the last month.

On June 23, the boy was taken off life support and died.

The victim’s mother — who lived separately from the husband — told detectives that McKnight was angry because the child was having potty training issues.

McKnight told detectives that he shared a bed with his son, and his son had wet the bed the two previous nights, prosecutors said.

Dad pleads guilty to murder of 2-month-old daughter (Erie, Pennsylvania)

Dad is identified as WENDELL T. MULKEY.

http://www.goerie.com/corry-father-to-plead-guilty-in-infant-death

Corry father to plead guilty in infant death

ERIE, Pa. -- A Corry father plans to plead guilty to third-degree murder in the March 2014 death of his 2-month-old daughter, his lawyer said.

Wendell T. Mulkey, 27, who had been scheduled to face trial Monday, is now scheduled for a plea hearing that day before Erie County Judge Daniel Brabender, according to court records.

Mulkey's lawyer, Eric Hackwelder, said Mulkey intends to plead guilty to felony charges of third-degree murder, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The child, identified in court records as "S.M.," died of abusive head trauma March 10, 2014, at UPMC's Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. An autopsy showed she also suffered 34 fractures to her ribs and leg bones that were in various stages of healing.

The plea would allow Mulkey to avoid the possibility of a life sentence. Had Mulkey gone to trial, the prosecution planned to seek a conviction for first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of life with no parole.

Hackwelder said the plea decision was driven in part by the fact the infant's mother, Miranda C. Fay, 21, entered a plea agreement Friday and pledged to testify against Mulkey at his trial. Hackwelder also said that statements Fay and Mulkey made to investigators could have been used against Mulkey at trial.

Hackwelder said some infant death cases are resolved with pleas to involuntary manslaughter, which is a death caused by a defendant's recklessness, but Mulkey's daughter had multiple injuries, some of them healing.

"That is why we came to the conclusion we did," he said.

His client, Hackwelder said, is also deeply remorseful.

"It was his call. That is what he wanted to do. I think it is the right call," he said.

First Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Hirz declined to comment.

Third-degree murder is a malicious, unintentional killing. It carries a 20-year maximum sentence.

The case began with Fay's 911 call on March 10, 2014.

A doctor who examined S.M. in the hospital in Pittsburgh discovered bruises on the baby's face, back and chest. S.M.'s brain and retinas were bleeding, the doctor said.

She concluded S.M. died of abusive head trauma and physical abuse.

According to a criminal complaint, Mulkey and Fay told investigators in a March 11, 2014, interview that the baby had not had any medical problems before her death. They said she was solely in their care in their home on East Airport Road in Corry.

Mulkey admitted he had lost his temper and shaken S.M. on previous occasions, investigators said.

He also said that on one occasion while changing the baby's diaper, he heard her leg make a "popping" sound, which he said might have been her leg breaking.

Fay pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges of endangering the welfare of a child on Friday. She admitted that between Feb. 10 and March 10, 2014, she failed to seek medical help for her child when she knew that the child had suffered a broken leg, rib fractures and severe head injuries, allegedly inflicted by Mulkey.

Dad gets probation--despite destruction of property, violating protection order after abusing son (Laramie, Wyoming)

Typical of how men's crimes against women and children are not taken seriously. Had he behaved like this towards a male employer, you wouldn't see this indulgence.

Dad is identified as JOSHUA S. BAKER.

http://wyomingnews.com/articles/2015/09/25/news/20local_09-25-15.txt#.Vgizk5cYMQs

Joshua Baker gets probation for child abuse

CHEYENNE - Despite being arrested for property destruction and violating a protection order while out on bond in a child abuse case, Joshua S. Baker has been given a chance at probation.

Laramie County District Judge Catherine Rogers told Baker during his sentencing hearing Thursday that his conduct on bond was completely unacceptable, and his lack of appreciation for court orders "has to stop."

If it doesn't, she cautioned, she'll send him to prison where he won't have a choice or a voice.

For three counts of child abuse, Rogers sentenced Baker to five years of probation with an underlying prison term of three to five years and ordered him to complete the Intensive Supervision Program.

The judge said she believes Baker can build and provide a stable, secure future for his children, and prison won't accomplish that or make him a better, less-violent person and father.

Baker, 25, was charged in early April with one count of physical child abuse for injuring a young boy. He also was charged with two counts of mental child abuse for injuring the boy and his younger sister.

When he admitted to the crimes in late May, he said he became upset with the boy after sending him upstairs to use the bathroom and later finding feces going from the stairs to the bathroom.

Baker's leg shackles jingled as he walked to the podium and stood before the judge dressed in nice jeans, a tan suit coat, a blue checkered button-down shirt and a tie.

He's been in jail for more than 50 days since violating a protection order in August.

"I've done things over the past few months that I regret," he told the judge, getting emotional when saying the time he's spent in jail is time he'll never get back. "I just want an opportunity to salvage what I still have left in my life."

Baker's boss, a tearful longtime friend and a family friend all spoke on his behalf, calling him a good, selfless person and saying his recent actions are uncharacteristic.

His attorney, Christopher Humphrey, said the contact that resulted in the protection order violation charge was consensual, but that didn't make it any less wrong.

Baker learned in jail that he is not meant for incarceration and will do everything in his power to not be in that position again, Humphrey stressed.

"He just wants to be a citizen in this community who is a good father," he said.

The District Attorney's Victim/Witness Services coordinator, Mellissa Walls, read a letter in court written by the children's mother.

"I feel like I have failed my children by not being strong enough to leave," she wrote, saying she felt scared and powerless and focused on mending her relationship. "I put my love and trust in the wrong person."

Laramie County District Attorney Jeremiah Sandburg told the judge he wouldn't completely back out of the plea agreement in light of the bond violation, though he could.

He said the prosecutor who initially worked the case contemplated giving Baker first-offender treatment because of his immediate cooperation, which would have allowed him the possibility of keeping a felony conviction off his record if he completed probation.

After Baker violated his bond in April by being arrested for property destruction and trespassing, the prosecution entered into a plea agreement that suggested the suspended prison term that Rogers accepted.

Sandburg continued, saying he thinks Baker is in a downward spiral and something needs to be done to cut it off.

Rogers hopes that "something" will be the Intensive Supervision Program.

She told Baker she immediately was struck when reviewing his file by how "pretty full of (himself)" he seemed.

She said Baker didn't graduate high school but managed to land a high-paying job , making significantly more than many attorneys in this community.

"You were at the top of the mountain looking down," the judge told him, adding that Baker was 24 going on 25 and had the world in the palm of his hand.

While the time Baker spent in jail was minor compared to many other defendants, Rogers said she hopes and believes it has motivated him to grow up, recognize his obligations to his kids and family and get his anger and impulse issues under control.

Her last warning to Baker was that while he doesn't seem used to people telling him what to do, "it's coming" in the form of intensive supervision.

"I understand," he responded softly.

Custodial dad, step on trial for severe abuse of 11-year-old son (Gold Hill, Oregon)

Another one of those cases where the mother's existence is neatly written out of the story.

How did abuser dad LAWRENCE MILLARD get custody? And what happened to the mother? Is she deceased? If so, do we know for a fact that it's from natural causes? Has she "disappeared"? If so, do we know the circumstances? Is she alive, but beaten out by this sadistic torture freak in family court? What?

Gold Hill couple on trial for child abuse
Prosecution: Boy burned, tied up
A Gold Hill couple are on trial facing accusations they severely abused their 11-year-old son.

By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune Posted Aug. 25, 2015 at 5:54 PM

Nurse practitioner Diane Kutzke remembers her first impressions of an 11-year-old boy who came to her for treatment of his burned hands.

"He was a very polite, sweet little boy. He was thin — emaciated almost — with horrific burns," Kutzke said in a videotaped deposition, adding that unlike most children, he waited patiently while at the clinic, reading a Harry Potter book.

Kutzke said his swollen, reddish-purple hands had so much tissue damage she couldn't tell whether the burns were recent.

The Jackson County District Attorney's Office alleges the boy's stepmother, Angela Marie Millard of Gold Hill, said she would show the boy what hell felt like, then held his hands under scalding hot running water sometime around Thanksgiving 2014.

He didn't receive medical care for his burned, infected hands until early February, when his grandmother took him to a clinic in Washington state, prosecutors allege.

Angela Millard, 35, and her husband, Lawrence Millard, 38, the boy's biological father, are on trial this week in Jackson County Circuit Court facing a host of assault and criminal mistreatment charges. The trial is scheduled to continue through Thursday.

During the February health clinic visit, Kutzke said she also observed the boy had a broken tooth, a swollen foot, bruised legs and an injury to his face.

Fearing that his parents were traveling from Oregon and would pick him up at the Washington clinic, Kutzke called 911.

"I called 911 because it was clear to me he had been abused," she said in the deposition, which was played Monday during the trial. "I thought he was in imminent danger."

The Millards were arrested in February and lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where they remain on $100,000 bail each.

After interviewing the boy and conducting a search of the family's one-bedroom apartment, investigators said they found a blue rope the Millards allegedly had used to tie up the boy when Lawrence Millard went to work and Angela Millard — who was pregnant at the time — ran errands and went to her own doctor appointments.

The boy was allegedly left tied up so long he urinated and defecated on himself. Angry that his clothing then had to be taken to a laundromat for washing, the Millards allegedly responded by diapering the boy and then leaving him tied up, prosecutors said.

Testing revealed the boy's DNA on the rope, plus the DNA of both parents, according to court testimony.

Diaper packaging and a diaper — sized to fit a child between 38 and 65 pounds — were also found in the home, investigators said.

Jackson County sheriff's Detective Steve Bohn, who was part of the team that executed a search warrant on the Millards' home, said investigators found a broken tooth in the bathroom. A dentist later was able to affix the broken-off tooth to a tooth root in the boy's mouth, he said.

Prosecutors allege Angela Millard hit the boy so hard with a hairbrush she broke out the tooth. Lawrence Millard is accused of injuring the boy's legs by beating him with a table leg.

The boy is now being cared for by a foster family, along with his toddler sister and a baby sister who was born a few months ago, said Jackson County Deputy District Attorney Virginia Greer.

In a videotaped interview between the boy and Bohn that was played in court, the boy said he is glad he and his toddler sister were taken away from the Millards.

"She would probably die if my dad beat her like he did me. She's only 2," the boy said.

Prosecutors allege the Millards did not get medical attention for the boy, who is now 12, because they feared the alleged abuse would be discovered. They allegedly did not allow the boy to go to school after he was burned. School records show he stopped attending school.

The boy said his stepmother bandaged his hands, but did not take him to a doctor.

Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Colin Fagan, an expert in vulnerable victim and high-tech crime investigations, said a search of Lawrence Millard's laptop showed deleted content of the boy clad only in underwear with bandaged hands. The image was preserved on the Cloud, an Internet-based data storage system. #The photo was taken on Dec. 10, 2014, long before the boy's February visit to the Washington state clinic with his grandmother, Fagan testified.

Fagan said laptop and cellphone searches show someone in the household entered search terms for "What happens when CPS (Child Protective Services) is called on you," "When they come after you" and "CPS advice for parents."

Prosecutors said the parents made the boy write extensively as a punishment.

Bohn said investigators found numerous writings made by the boy as he referenced biblical scriptures and said he was trying to obey his parents so he would be allowed to go back to school. The writings were entered as evidence over the objections of the Millards' court-appointed defense attorneys, who said the submissions would be too prejudicial.

The defense attorneys said they would acknowledge some facts in the case are true, but that the prosecution's case is deficient because some facts are still in dispute.

As one punishment, Bohn said the boy had written, "I will listen to and love my family."

Bohn testified the boy wrote the sentence over and over again — 1,136 times.

Dad beats 20-month-old daughter over potty training (Austin, Texas)

Dad is identified as BRYANT KEITH DAVIS.

Austin dad allegedly beat toddler, pulled tooth over potty issues

By Dave Byknish Published: July 21, 2015, 10:00 pm | Updated: July 22, 2015, 12:36 pm

AUSTIN (KXAN) — U.S. Marshals took 27-year-old Bryant Keith Davis into custody Tuesday after his 20-month-old girl needed to be revived following cardiac arrest related to severe bodily injury.

On July 9 around 3:15 p.m. Austin-Travis County EMS was called to an apartment at 8907 Tronewood Drive for a child having a seizure. EMS transported the child to Dell Children’s Medical Center, where she went into cardiac arrest.

The child was found in a severe state — with 16 rib fractures, liver and spleen lacerations, a possible collapsed lung, facial bruising and a brain bleed, according to an official Austin Police Department warrant.

Davis initially told investigators he did not know how the child got hurt. He claimed that while watching the child on July 7, he heard a child fall while playing on an outdoor play set; he said when he went to look, the victim’s step-sibling was helping brush dirt off her. He also said she had minor injuries at that point. He told investigators over the next couple days he saw the girl’s condition getting worse, including breathing problems. And he called 911 two days after the initial incident Davis outlined.

Austin police investigators had Davis participate in a re-enactment of his reported incident on Sunday. During the re-enactment, police say Davis explained the girl had gone to the bathroom on the living room floor on July 9. He demonstrated on a doll that he hit the girl in the rib area and then put her over his knee to spank her, according to investigators. He then reportedly yelled at her to use the toilet.

According to the warrant, Davis “forcefully took the victim to the restroom and told her to use the restroom while he cleaned up the waste from the living room.” When he eventually walked by the bathroom, police say he noticed the girl was standing in the bowl of the toilet. He demonstrated that he picked her up and forcefully slammed her onto the toilet seat, which caused her to hit her head on the toilet lid, according to police. He told them he then took her back to the living room to continue “teaching her a lesson” and slapped her on the back of the head.

Later in the day, when the child was having breathing problems, Davis said he administered a breathing treatment and that during that treatment the child had a seizure, according to investigators. Davis said he pulled the mouthpiece out of her clenched mouth, which removed a front tooth.

However, two doctors at Dell Children’s Medical Center said the toddler’s wounds are consistent with physical abuse, and she remains hospitalized.

Meanwhile, Davis has been charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury — a first-degree felony. He is currently booked into the Travis County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Child Protective Services says they are also investigating the case and has since removed the victim’s 3-year-old sibling from the home. The agency said there were no prior history with the Davis family.

Davis’ Criminal History

•2005 – Aggravated Robbery (Houston), pleaded guilty, served 2 years in jail
•2014 – Assault w/ Bodily Injury of Family Member (Austin), pleaded guilty, served 100 days in jail
•2013 – Manufacturing / Delivery of Controlled Substance (Houston), pleaded guilty, served 10 months in jail

Father accused of injuring child during potty training

Austin man arrested in child abuse case

Shannon Murray, KVUE 9:41 a.m. CDT July 22, 2015

AUSTIN, Texas – The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force has arrested a 27-year-old Austin man accused of seriously injuring his 20-month-old during a potty training accident.

According to the arrest affidavit, Bryant Davis called 911 around 3:15 p.m. on July 9 for his child reportedly having a seizure.

The toddler went to Dell Children's Medical Center, where she went into cardiac arrest and was resuscitated. CT scans of the child showed 16 rib fractures in various stages of healing, lacerations of the liver and spleen, possible collapsed lung and bleeding in the brain.

Davis initially told police he was not aware of how the toddler was injured, but on July 17 agreed to reenact what happened in his home and to have it recorded.

In the reenactment, Davis said he slapped his child after she "peed and pooped on the living room floor," the affidavit said. Davis also said he spanked the toddler and while in the bathroom slammed her onto the toilet seat and she hit her head on the lid.

Davis told police his toddler had the seizure while using an inhaler. He said he pulled a front tooth while trying to remove the inhaler from her mouth before calling EMS.

Two physicians with Dell Children's Child Abuse Resource and Education Team told police the injuries "are most consistent with physical abuse."

According to police, the toddler is at Dell Children's Medical Center intensive care unit in critical condition.

Davis has been charged with felony injury to a child, serious bodily injury. According to the Travis County Jail, he is being held on $500,000 bail.

"Caretaking" dad abuses 1-month-old baby while mom at work; baby suffered spiral fractures in both legs (Morgantown, North Carolina)

Man pleads guilty to child abuse

From staff reports

A 20-year-old Morganton man will spend five to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to felony child abuse.

Austin Dean DeLoatch entered the plea to a charge of felony child abuse inflicting serious injury during Burke County Superior Court on Tuesday and was sentenced to serve active time in custody of the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections by Robert C. Ervin, Superior Court Judge from Burke County.

On Oct. 24, 2014, investigator Ryan Stotts of the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to Grace Hospital for a report of a 1-month-old male child that had spiral fractures of both legs.

Investigation into the matter revealed that the child’s mother was at work when the crime occurred, and the child was fine at that time she left the home. DeLoatch, who is the child’s father, had been alone providing care for the child when the abuse took place and contacted the mother because the child would not stop crying.

They eventually took the child to the hospital for evaluation where it was determined the baby had a broken leg. Further evaluation at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte and Mission Hospital in Asheville revealed the infant had two broken legs along with other injuries. Doctors who treated the child at Levine and Mission indicated that the injuries to the child were consistent with a twisting of the legs and were highly unlikely to be accidental, noting they appeared to be the result of physical abuse.

Stotts was the lead investigator for the case and was aided in his investigation by Burke County Department of Social Services. Frank Webster handled prosecution for the District Attorney’s Office.

Dad kills 3-year-old son during visitation; was angry that child "not properly potty trained" (Houston, Texas)

HPD: Father beats 3-year-old son to death over potty training accidents

Author: Nakia Cooper, Sr. Web Editor
Published On: Jun 01 2015 02:19:21 PM CDT Updated On: Jun 02 2015 10:21:51 AM CDT

HOUSTON - A frustrated father beat his 3-year-old son to death, angry that the child was not properly potty trained, according to Houston police.

Anthony Trakemon Powell, 24, is charged with capital murder. Prosha Nicole Land, the boy's aunt who was present during the alleged beatings, is charged with injury to a child by omission. Land is 23 years old.

Police said Powell picked the boy up from his mother, who lives in Jasper, Texas, and brought him to his home in Houston. The boy's mother said she allowed her son to go with Powell so he could "get to know his son better," according to court documents. But during that stay, the father repeatedly beat his son because the boy wet himself, according to court documents.

The boy's aunt saw her brother repeatedly beating his son, but did nothing to stop it, police say.

Land said she loved her nephew like he was her own and even fed him before her own children because he was the "boy she never had." The aunt said her brother became increasingly upset over the lack of progress his son was having with potty training, and that would make him hit the child.

Powell allegedly told his sister, "I'm tired of beating their (expletive) and them not learning," according to court documents.

The aunt said Powell struck the boy with his hand and a belt each time he had an accident. She said she saw her brother hit the boy on the head on May 26 or 27. She said Powell struck the boy so hard, he fell on his bottom. She said Powell then picked up the boy "like a rag doll" and struck him again on the head. She said her nephew hit the tile floor in the bathroom, making a loud sound.

Land said the boy began exhibiting unusual behavior and said repeatedly that he was sleepy. Land said her nephew usually wanted to be held, but this time, he only wanted to lie on the floor. The aunt said she did not want the boy to go to sleep because she was afraid that he would never wake up again.

Around 5 a.m. on May 28, Powell woke his sister up and said his son was not breathing. Land went into the room and noticed her nephew was wheezing. She thought he was having an asthma attack and tried to administer a breathing treatment, then called 911 when he didn't respond.

Paramedics rushed the boy to Texas Children's Hospital where it was discovered that he was suffering from swelling of the brain and multiple fractures.

Land and her children were interviewed by investigators, and one of the children admitted to seeing Land strike the boy. The child told investigators that Land hit the 3-year-old with a green belt after the boy had an accident.

The boy died at 11:30 p.m. Friday, and charges were filed against his father and aunt.

No bond amount was set for Powell. Land's bond was set at $20,000.

Dad claims infant daughter accidentally hit her head, but searched "shaken baby syndrome" after she was injured; baby has fractured skull and dad charged with assault (Waterbury, Connecticut)

Having examined hundreds of these cases before, I can reasonably speculate what really happened. The father became "frustrated" during a routine diaper change (this is surprisingly common especially with male caregivers), and bashed the baby's skull. He did a quick Internet search under shaken baby, then decided to do a cover-up using the classic Clumsy Daddy excuse. It's numbingly routine at this point...Notice that there is no mention of a mother in the home. Makes me wonder if dad was playing the caretaker role while Mom worked for a living. That is also very common .

Daddy is identified as BENJAMIN MARSHALL.

Court Documents: Father Did Internet Search On “Shaken Baby”
April 1, 2015 2:20 PM

WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) _ Court documents show a 21-year-old Woodbury man whose daughter suffered a head injury last June had searched the term “shaken baby syndrome” on his smart phone shortly after the girl was injured.

Benjamin Marshall is free on a $50,000 bond after his arraignment Monday on an assault charge. Marshall told police he was changing his daughter when he received a chat message and become distracted. He said he caught the child as she fell from the changing table, but the baby hit her head.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, police searched the phone and found four searches for “shaken baby syndrome.”

The baby was treated at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury for a fractured skull.

Attempts to reach Marshall for comment Wednesday were not successful.

Dad arrested for abusing 3-month-old infant (Kenner, Louisiana)

Typical shaken baby story. Dad is apparently unemployed and/or unemployed and is serving as "caretaker." Mom is forced into supporting the family, because Dad is unable and/or unwilling to do so. As often happens, disaster ensues, as these men have no patience or nurturing skills. They can't even manage to get the baby medical care. We see this all the time. They wait till Mom gets home to do anything.

KENNER, La. —A Kenner man was arrested this week after his 3-month-old infant was diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome.

Anthony Hamilton, 25, was charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile for an incident that reportedly happened last Thursday at his home on Florida Avenue.

According to the Kenner Police Department, Hamilton's child was admitted to a hospital where the infant was diagnosed with trauma consistent with shaken baby syndrome. Medical professionals also found several puncture wounds consistent with scabs from fingernail impressions.

During questioning, Hamilton reportedly told officers he was changing the infant's diaper when he noticed the baby's eyes roll back. He said he pinched the baby, who responded, and he did not seek further medical attention.

The KPD said the child's mother returned home from work and noticed something was wrong with the child. The two parents then took the child to the hospital, according to the KPD.

After further questioning, the father admitted to shaking the infant because he was nervous. He was arrested and the Office of Community Services - Child Protection was brought into the investigation.

Kissimmee dad arrested on aggravated child abuse charges

December 30, 2014, 4:28 PM

A 24-year-old Kissimmee father was arrested Monday after police say he broke his infant son's thigh bone and lied about how it happened.

Jorge Santiago initially told police he was holding his 5-month-old son tucked under his arm. He said he sat down in a chair and reached to pick up a blanket that was on the floor. That's when heard "a loud 'pop' and the baby started to cry about one minute later, a report said.

Santiago's story suggested that the weight of his body put too much pressure on the baby's left bent leg and caused the infants femur to fracture.

But when Santiago and the little boy's mother brought him to Osceola Regional Medical Center about 9 a.m. Monday, emergency room doctors realized Santiago's story didn't match the severity of his son's injuries. Santiago's girlfriend said she was sleeping at the time and was awakened by the baby's screaming.

Hospital staffers notified Kissimmee police and the Florida Department of Children and Families.

A doctor told police that the little boy's injury "was more consistent with a twisting motion and not consistent with simply being compressed in the wrong direction," Santiago's arrest report said.

During questioning, police explained to Santiago "that the femur is the strongest bone in the human body and that his explanation was not consistent with the amount of force it would take to break (the infant's) leg," the report said.

When confronted, Santiago admitted that he knew his story didn't add up. He later told police that the baby was injured while Santiago was attempting to change his diaper about 7:50 a.m. Monday.

"Jorge then confessed that he was getting frustrated while changing [his son's dirty] diaper because [his son] kept sticking his legs straight out keeping him form wiping and changing the diaper," the report said.

Santiago then demonstrated that how he roughly pushed his son's legs several times, with more force each time. He told police it was likely that he twisted the baby's legs as he pushed them back, the report said.

Santiago and her girlfriend lived with the baby in a single room they rented from a Kissimmee woman. They didn't have a phone or a car. The homeowner told police that she routinely heard Santiago yelling and cursing at his son.

According to the arrest report, the couple did not have a phone and had to message several friends on Facebook before they could find someone to give them a ride to the hospital. The baby was later transferred to Nemours Children's Hospital for more treatment.

Santiago was arrested on aggravated child-abuse charges and booked into the Osceola County Jail on $2,500 bail.

Dad gets jail sentence for breaking arm of 5-month-old son, violating bond conditions (Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin)

A surprisingly high number of "frustrated" fathers manage to break the baby's legs during a diaper change. This one is identified as MARK D. KUEHN.

Man sentenced for breaking baby's arm

Karen Madden, Daily Tribune Media

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — A 28-year-old Marshfield man authorities say broke a baby's arm in two places was sentenced in Wood County Circuit Court to 120 days in jail.

Mark D. Kuehn was given work release with his jail sentence and placed on three years probation for child abuse. During the sentencing Dec. 15, Wood County Circuit Judge Todd Wolf also ordered Kuehn to pay $654, undergo any counseling deemed necessary and have no contact with the victim. A charge of felony bail jumping was dismissed and read into the record.

According to the criminal complaint, on Sept. 6, a Wood County Human Services employee contacted the Marshfield Police Department regarding an injured baby. A 5-month-old boy was brought into Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital by his parents. The baby had two spiral fractures to his left arm.

A doctor told a Marshfield detective that the baby wasn't walking, crawling or pulling himself up yet, according to the complaint. The doctor believed the injuries had to be caused by someone else.

Kuehn, the baby's father, said he had been taking care of his son when the baby began to fuss in the crib. While Kuehn was changing the baby's diaper, the baby kept rolling from side to side. Kuehn said he became frustrated with the baby at one point and grabbed the baby's left arm and pulled it to direct the baby back onto his back, according to the complaint.

Kuehn said he heard a pop in the arm when he pulled it, and the baby began to cry, according to the complaint.

Kuehn was out on bond for the child abuse case when authorities learned he was having contact with the baby, according to court documents. The contact was in violation of Kuehn's bond conditions, and authorities filed a bail jumping charge against Kuehn.

A Dallas man is accused of seriously wounding his infant daughter’s genitals during a diaper change.

Spencer Matthew Henderson, 23, has been charged with injury to a child. He was arrested Tuesday and remains in the Dallas County Jail in lieu of $125,000.

Dallas police officers responded to a possible child abuse report Dec. 8 at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. A 6-month-old girl had been taken to the hospital with wounds to her genitals, according to police records.

During police interviews, Henderson said that he was rough with the baby while he was changing her diaper because he was having a bad day and had a lot on his mind, the warrant says.

“I know I was being rough with her,” records show Henderson told detectives.

He said that while he was trying to change the baby’s diaper, she was keeping her legs straight. He said that he aggressively pulled her legs apart and used a baby wipe to clean her “hard” and “fast.” He told police that he thinks he might have “ripped” her, the warrant says.

Henderson’s girlfriend, who is also the baby’s mother, told police that she thought Henderson accidentally cut the infant with his long fingernail.

The couple put the diaper on the infant, but she was still bleeding several hours later. That’s when they took her to a hospital, police records show.

Conviction stands for dad in murder of missing 2-year-old daughter (Detroit, Michigan)

D'ANDRE LANE is on the Michigan Killer Dads and Custody list. This little girl's murder took place during Daddy's visitation time.

According to earlier media accounts, Dad previously served  two years in prison on gun and drug charges. In addition, his ex-wife had previously filed a protection order, claiming Dad had threatened their 2-year-old son. Dad was then held by police for violating the personal protection order, but Judge Cheryl Matthews released him after ordering him to take (useless) anger management classes.

Despite all this, LANE was granted (and continued to retain) his custody/visitation rights.

Conviction Stands For Dad In Murder Of Missing 2-Year-Old Bianca Jones

November 17, 2014 6:18 PM

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) – The Michigan appeals court has affirmed the murder conviction of a Detroit man whose 2-year-old daughter has not been found.

The court says there was “sufficient circumstantial evidence” to support D’Andre Lane’s convictions. He was charged with first-degree child abuse and murder committed during another felony.

In a 3-0 decision last week, the appeals court rejected challenges to evidence introduced at trial.

Lane claimed little Bianca Jones was abducted during a carjacking in December of 2011, a tragic story that led police and volunteers to scour Detroit’s most depressed neighborhoods during the Christmas season. But Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Carin Goldfarb said an investigation revealed the carjacking never happened, and that Lane concocted the elaborate story to cover up his child’s murder.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors painted Lane as an abusive father was obsessed with potty training his children. Prosecutors alleged Lane beat Bianca to death with a stick after wet herself, covered her body with a blanket and put her in her car seat. They said he then drove Bianca’s siblings to school before dumping her body.

Police said a cadaver dog detected evidence in a closet at Lane’s home.

Lane is serving a no-parole sentence.

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport man has been arrested after bruised and swelling wounds were observed on his 4-year-old, mentally disabled daughter — the results of his purported discipline with a belt after she urinated on herself.

An affidavit filed in Kingsport General Sessions Court identified the suspect as Ivron Q. Robertson, 28, 328 Barnett Drive. Court records show Kingsport police were alerted to the alleged abuse on Wednesday by the Department of Children's Services.

The victim reportedly arrived at a Kingsport early learning center "with bruises and welt marks on her legs." Police and a DCS case worker then visited her home on Barnett Drive, where they found Robertson and his wife.

An officer at the scene observed "linear swelling and bruising marks" at the bend of both of the girl's knees as well as her buttocks. Her parents initially denied knowing how the marks came to appear, according to court records, with both stating they had "never whipped" their mentally disabled daughter.

Upon further questioning, Ivron Robertson allegedly admitted that he had caused the lines and impressions on his daughter's skin Monday after she urinated on herself. Robertson allegedly stated the girl "knew better than that," so he disciplined her by whipping her with a belt. He also stated that he had not intended to leave the marks on the mentally disabled girl and "was not trying to abuse (her)."

Officials on scene determined the incident was abusive and placed Robertson under arrest. He was charged with child abuse, a Class E felony considering the victim's age, a charge that's punishable by imprisonment of one to six years and fines.

ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — A Round Rock father is facing charges after his 3-week-old daughter showed up at the hospital with a broken leg and bruising to her brain. The girl’s parents brought her to Dell Childrens Medical Center on Sept. 8 and hospital staff alerted police.

The girl’s father, William Charles Hansel, told police he had become frustrated with the child during the night and pulled his daughter’s leg while trying to change her diaper, the document said. He believed that was what caused her leg to break. When the girl woke up a second time, Hansel told police he dropped the child on the changing table and squeezed her head.

Hansel is charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony. He is being held in the Williamson County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Dad charged with capital murder in death of 2-year-old daughter; accused of beating girl to death for soiling her diaper (Fort Bliss, Texas)

Dad is identified as DARTORIOUS GRAHAM. Notice that Mom has been charged with "failure to protect", though she was not at home during the murder. But she was supposed to somehow stop this vicious thug by "reporting" him to the authorities--an often useless even counterproductive strategy, as it the authorities often refuse to prosecute or keep the abuser in jail, leaving the mother vulnerable to violent retaliation. And as we know, this kind of POS is also notoriously successful at getting his custody "rights"--just to spite the mother.

And notice that absentee fathers are virtually never charged with "failure to protect" when an abusive custodial mother harms the kids.

Texas soldier beat his daughter to death because she soiled her diaper
(23 September 2014 20:06)

Dartarious Graham, 20, has been charged with capital murder after his daughter Peyton was found unresponsive with 'suspicious' injuries in his apartment in Fort Bliss, Texas.

A soldier beat his two-year-old daughter to death after he became upset that she had soiled her diaper, police have said.

Dartarious Graham, 20, has been charged with capital murder after his daughter Peyton was found unresponsive with 'suspicious' injuries in his apartment in Fort Bliss, Texas.

Police have also charged Graham's cousin Robert Franklin, 19, for allegedly witnessing the attack and walking away.

Graham, a US army specialist, is said to have become enraged and taken the little girl into his room with a belt.

According to police, Franklin looked through the door and saw Graham beating little Peyton but 'actually walked away while the beating took place.'

Investigators said Franklin told them he heard the child continue to be attacked and then came out of the bedroom.

The pair called 911 in panic when they noticed the child go limp at 4.50pm on Saturday.

Peyton was transported to El Paso Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead an hour later, ABC7 reported.

The child's mother, Elizabeth Graham, 23, who was not home at the time of the incident, has been charged with injury to a child by omission.

Investigators learned the father had a history of beating the child and that the mother had failed to protect her and report the abuse, police said.

All three are being held in El Paso County jail.

Dartarious Graham, whose bail is set at $250,000, could face the death penalty or life without parole if convicted.

Custodial dad charged with 1st-degree murder in brutal beating death of 4-year-old daughter (Cherokee, North Carolina)

As is often the case in these stories, there are a lot of buried facts and things that are not explained at all.

1) A careful reading shows that this vicious killer was in fact a custodial father. He also had custody of a son.

2) The murdered girl apparently lived with both parents back in New Jersey. There were apparently concerns about her being malnourished then. Was this the mother's fault? Apparently, not as the problem PERSISTED after Daddy got hold of her and moved out of state, and in fact seemingly got WORSE.

3) How did this father get custody? Who gave it to him? Why was he allowed to cut off all contact with the mother (this often happens with abusive control freak fathers, contrary to what the FR folks tell you about "gatekeeping" mothers)? Who allowed him to move out of state, when mothers are routinely forbidden by the family courts to do the same?

4) The son reported abuse by the father to social workers before, and had documentable bruising. Why was there no follow up?

Lots of unanswered questions here.

Dad is identified as ERIC DAVIS.

Autopsy report reveals extent of murdered child’s injuries

Posted: Wednesday, September 3, 2014 2:00 pm

By Quintin Ellison

When a pathologist examined Erica Davis, practically the only parts of her body not broken, bruised or fractured were the little girl’s legs, according to a lengthy autopsy report released last week by Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

The 4-year-old child’s father, Eric Davis, 24, remains jailed on charges he abused his daughter and son Oct. 11, 2013, in a room at the Qualla Motel near Cherokee. Erica died Oct. 12 at Asheville’s Mission Hospital after she was taken off life support.

Davis is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. Deemed unable to pay for legal help, he has been assigned two lawyers by the state’s Office of Indigent Defense Services. Having two lawyers – a more-experienced first chair and a second chair – is standard practice when it appears reasonably likely that prosecutors will seek the death penalty.

That isn’t certain. A required pretrial hearing (rule 24) to determine whether the state intends to proceed with a capital case hasn’t been held. Davis is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 9.

State law passed in 2001 gives a prosecutor the discretion to try a first-degree murder case without seeking the death penalty, even if aggravating circumstances exist to support a death sentence. These are factors that increase the severity or culpability of the alleged criminal act.

Last November, District Attorney Mike Bonfoey declined to comment on the case.

One aggravating circumstance under North Carolina law is whether “the murder was especially heinous, atrocious, cruel or depraved (or involved torture).”

The autopsy lists the official cause of Erica’s death as “acute intracranial injury with subdural hematoma and cerebral edema” due to blunt trauma to the head.

Erica was struck repeatedly, including with a cylindrical object; multiple contusions and several lacerations were found. There was blunt trauma to her thorax, abdomen, back and pelvis; three of her ribs were fractured.

Erica was very underweight for her age, just 29 pounds (less than the fifth percentile, the pathologist, Dr. Patrick Lantz, wrote). She was wearing a disposable diaper, unusual for a child that age. Social workers in New Jersey, where her parents initially lived, had reported in 2009 to a judge that Erica, then an infant, appeared malnourished. The little girl was later returned to the custody of her mother and father, both 19 at the time. In an October, 2013, interview, Erica’s mother told The Herald she had last seen her daughter in July 2011.

In a summary of his findings, the pathologist wrote that Erica had been living at the Qualla Motel with her father, brother and aunt, according to investigative reports he reviewed.

“The father called 911 stating that (Erica) was choking on water. When paramedics arrived, she was unresponsive,” the pathologist said. Law enforcement officers were called to the scene.

Davis’ son, then age 3, told a Jackson County social worker that his father “made the boo-boos,” according to court documents used to support a search warrant. The boy’s buttocks were heavily bruised and there were handprint marks on both sides of his face.

Dad charged with murder in death of 3-month-old son (Prince William County, Virginia)

Haymarket man charged in death of infant son

By Julie Zauzmer, Published: May 5

A Haymarket man has been charged with murder in the alleged shaking death of his 3-month-old son, Prince William County police said Monday.

David Michael Schmidt, 28, called police last August to report that his son, Rhys, was unconscious and not breathing, authorities said. Then, according to a search warrant filed in Prince William Circuit Court, he took the baby to Heathcote Medical Center. Schmidt said he had been changing a diaper when the baby began to have “spasms,” the court papers say. .

The child was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where doctors determined that he had broken ribs and a subdural hematoma, a life-threatening buildup of blood on the surface of the brain that can indicate that a baby has been shaken, according to court papers.

Rhys died 12 days later, on Aug. 17.

Police interviewed Schmidt and wrote in a search warrant: “Due to the serious nature of the child’s injuries, Mr. Schmidt’s version of events are highly suspicious.” They searched the Schmidt family’s home three days after Rhys was injured and seized items including computers, baby bottles and a cushion.

After Rhys died, county police obtained a search warrant for the cellphones of David Schmidt and his wife, Elizabeth, Rhys’s mother. In the affidavit for the warrant, they wrote that the boy’s parents communicated about his health using their phones and used mobile apps to help them care for the baby.

Jonathan Perok, a police spokesman, said that investigators spent months consulting several medical examiners to determine the cause of the child’s death. They concluded that Rhys had been shaken by his father and that it caused the fatal injuries, Perok said.

Schmidt was arrested Thursday on charges of murder and felony child abuse and was held without bond. It was not clear whether he has an attorney.

Elizabeth Schmidt declined to comment when reached by phone on Monday.

Dad gets 35 years for beating death of toddler daughter during visitation (Marion County, Indiana)

Even when the courts don't order it, mothers are under incredible pressure these days to provide visitation "voluntarily" and "involve" the father--even if he turns out to be a murderous thug, like this one. It's a fathers' rights MYTH that children need a father--any father--and too often this twisted ideology means that a child gets "visits" with a violent freak.

Once again, we have a short-tempered little sh** who lost it for something stupid like soiled pants, and bashed a toddler girl to death. All because he was allowed a "visit."

Dad is identified as WAYNE BRADSHAW.

Father gets 35 years in prison in toddler’s death

Star report 7 p.m. EDT April 10, 2014

The father of a toddler who died last year after being beaten, squeezed and burned has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for his role in the child’s death.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry’s office announced Thursday that Wayne Bradshaw will serve the 35- year-sentence — plus another 10 that were suspended — as part of a plea agreement on a charge of the fatal neglect of his daughter. The charge is the highest level felony, a Class A.

Originally, Bradshaw was charged with murder, two counts of battery with injury and neglect of a dependent. The plea agreement involves only the latter charge.

After Bradshaw completes his prison sentence, he is ordered to serve an additional five years of probation, according to a release from Curry’s office. During his sentence, Bradshaw is not allowed to have any contact with children who are not biologically his.

On July 26, 2013, Bradshaw called 911 and medics found the girl, 18 or 19 months old, unresponsive. Bradshaw, the girl’s biological father, told police he had put her in the bathtub, heard a bump and found her partially submerged. He said he tried CPR.

Later, Bradshaw told police he became angry when his daughter soiled her diapers while he was watching her and her two siblings, ages 2 years and 9 months, for his girlfriend, according to court records.

A detective wrote in a court document that Bradshaw said he “lost it” and grabbed the baby by the thigh to put her in the bathtub, then yanked her arm, squeezed her torso and shook her.

The Marion County coroner’s office discovered several injuries to the girl, whose name was redacted from court documents. The injuries included: bleeding inside her head; bruises to her head, chest, neck and both thighs; hemorrhaging of her lungs, kidneys and liver; a burn on her right leg and a cut on her tongue; and a damaged rectum.

The children’s mother, Earlynn Jelks, 25, dropped the three children off with Bradshaw at his home in the 2300 block of North Rural Street on July 19, according to court records. She told police she wanted Bradshaw to spend some time with them.

Bradshaw’s mother said he called her several days later, asking her to come over because he couldn’t handle the stress of caring for the children.
