A 5-week-old boy was hospitalized Saturday with injuries consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome, a County Sheriff’s spokesman said.
The baby’s father told investigators he was stressed and hadn’t been sleeping because of the baby’s crying, spokesman Doug Gay said. The father, Zachary Campbell, told investigators he shook the baby because of the crying, a news release stated.
The infant’s mother noticed Saturday afternoon the baby had difficulty breathing, Gay said. She called her mother, who came over. They decided to take the baby to Mercy Medical Center, Gay said.
Doctors found the baby’s brain was bleeding, Gay said. The baby was taken to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Mo., where he was in critical condition.
Deputies arrested Campbell, 19, of 16175 Sycamore Lane. He was being held Sunday in the Benton County Jail awaiting a bond hearing in connection with felony first-degree domestic battering.
The baby’s name was not released.
