TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - An accused child molester is in the Vigo County Jail after fighting extradition from Ohio.

Louis Spencer, 40, was arrested two months ago in Dayton, Ohio for allegedly sexually abusing his step daughter at their Terre Haute home.

It all started a year ago when his 15-year-old stepdaughter stepped forward, claiming Spencer had sexually assaulted and raped her. After a 10-month investigation U.S. Marshals and Dayton Police assisted Terre Haute Police and tracked down Spencer at his Ohio home. For two months, Spencer has fought extradition, leaving Police to obtain an Ohio and Indiana governor's warrant.

"We had to apply for a governor's warrant so we had to ask the governor of Indiana to ask the governor of Ohio if we could bring him back to this state," Terre Haute Police Detective Rick Decker said. "We're glad he's back in Vigo County so the judicial system can begin."

Only a couple of governor's warrants are issued in Vigo County each year. Although, police said once the warrants were approved, Spencer finally consented. Spencer will now face charges of sexual misconduct with a minor, rape and residential entry.

Spencer will have his initial hearing in court Wednesday morning.
