Police: Dad punched 3-month-old daughter, fracturing her skull (Lorain, Ohio)

Where to even start with dad TERRENCE OWENS. He was apparently trying to strike his girlfriend, the mother of his daughter, when he hit the baby instead. Dad was violating an order of protection by even showing up at the mom's apartment. He has a history of domestic violence (obviously) and even had marijuana on him when he was arrested. The baby has been diagnosed with a serious head fracture from the incident.

LORAIN — A 3-month-old baby girl had her skull fractured when she was punched in the head by her father, according to Lorain police Sgt. Mark Carpentiere.

The girl was listed in fair condition yesterday at Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center. The girl's mother said Terrence Owens, 29, was attempting to hit her Sunday night when she asked him to feed the baby, but hit the infant instead, Carpentiere said.

He "showed no remorse and just stared at her" after she began yelling at him to get away from her and the baby, Carpentiere said.

The mother, Owens and the baby left the Randall Street, Lorain, home to go to her apartment in Elyria and she contacted her parents. They immediately drove the baby and her mother to EMH Regional Medical Center, police said. They baby was flown by medical helicopter to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center.

Carpentiere said the baby's mother had told her parents the 3-month-old had hit her head. She did not tell them the truth until the girl was admitted into the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with a serious skull fracture, he said.

Owens was arrested yesterday morning by Elyria police at the mother's Elyria apartment on a warrant for violating a protection order. The protection order was issued Nov. 26, 2008, after he was convicted of domestic violence in September against the baby's mother, according to an Elyria police report.

He was also served with an outstanding bench warrant through Elyria Municipal Court. As he was being taken into custody by officers, a small bag of marijuana was found in Owens' left-front pocket, the report states. He was brought to the Elyria City Jail, where he posted his $3,690 bond. He was then brought to the Lorain County Jail, where he is being held on unrelated charges, Carpentiere said.

Owens was charged with two counts of domestic violence, as well as felonious assault and felony domestic violence, Carpentiere said.
