Macon father indicted in infant son's death

Bibb County grand jurors have indicted a 21-year-old Macon father in the July death of his 2-month-old son.

Darrlyn Deshawn Jones, of Elkan Avenue, is charged with murder in the July 21 death of Jayceon Davis, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court on Tuesday.

The indictment alleges Jones caused the boy’s death “by causing him to receive cruel and excessive physical and mental pain by inflicting blunt force trauma to his head.”

Jones was jailed after he allegedly told police he struck the boy in the head with his hands using force, and then, minutes later, struck him in the head repeatedly. He also has said he dropped or threw the boy “with force” down onto a bed, according to arrest warrants.

The child later died at a local hospital. Medical tests showed he sustained severe brain trauma, according to Macon police.

A relative told The Telegraph in July that Jones had called in the days after his arrest and denied the allegations against him.

Jones was denied bond at a September hearing. He is being held at the Bibb County jail, according to jail records.
