Father, 17, charged with killing infant

A 17-year-old father has been charged with beating his 4-month-old boy to death last week in West Englewood and is expected to appear in bond court today, police said today.

Chicago Police Department news affairs officials would not release the name or a booking photo of the teen because he is under 18 even though he has been charged as an adult by prosecutors.

Prosecutors identified the father as Willie Brown.

Brown is charged with the Sept. 26 beating of his son, Demari Brown, of the 6000 block of South Honore Street. The infant died of multiple blunt force injuries from child abuse, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The infant was given a bath and placed in a crib for a nap by the grandmother, police said. The baby's mother checked on the child and discovered the child was unresponsive, police said.

The victim was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and pronounced dead. The baby had signs of possible bruising, old and new, to the chest and temple area.

On Sept. 28, the victim's father was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, police said.

Police were initially told the boy's mother had put him down for a nap, and later his father checked on him and found him unresponsive, according to preliminary information.
