Dad faces preliminary charges in alleged sword attack on son (Greenwood, Indiana)

Not a headline you see every day.

In reading between the lines, one gets the impression that Daddy probably has a long history of abusive behavior. The allegation that he "messed with" the daughter sure sounds like a huge red flag as well as enormous understatement. I suspect that what the family would say--if they could speak plainly--is that Daddy sexually assaulted her or tried to.

Dad is identified as HARJINDER SINGH.

Greenwood father faces preliminary charges in alleged sword attack on his son

12:54 PM, Sep 10, 2012

A Greenwood father is facing preliminary charges of battery and criminal recklessness after police said he attacked his son with a sword.

The alleged assault happened Sept. 5 after Harjinder Singh, 46, got into an argument with his sons. When Sgt. Doug Roller of the Greenwood Police Department arrived at a house in the 2800 block of Hearthside Drive, he found two males with bleeding cuts on their faces, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Singh’s two sons — their ages unknown — and their mother told police that Singh “messed with” his college-age daughter the night before. Around 11 a.m. Sept. 5, the two sons confronted their father about his alleged behavior. The argument escalated after Singh made a derogatory comment about his sons’ mother, the affidavit said.

Singh then grabbed a sword from a wall and swung it at one of his sons, striking him twice in the head. The son was able to wrestle the sword away from Singh, at which time his other son grabbed the weapon and bent it across his knee, the affidavit said.

Both Singh and one of his sons were treated by medics.

Singh sustained facial injuries and was bleeding from his nose when police arrived.

The son was treated at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, police said. Singh is now out of jail after posting an $11,000 bond Friday, according to Johnson County Jail. The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office has until Wednesday to decide if it will file formal charges.
