Dad charged with kicking son in head

The father of a 13-year-old boy is accused of kicking him in the head during an argument with the child's mother over a set of car keys.

On Sept. 3, a woman at a home in the 1500 block of Jackson Keller Road told officers she'd argued with Joseph Almanza, 33, because he refused to return her car keys after he helped fix her vehicle the day before.

The woman said Almanza became so angry he kicked their son in the head, then an hour later struck her about 10 times on her head.

Almanza, who already had been accused of assaulting the woman June 24, was charged with continuous violence against a relative and with injury to a child. Both are third-degree felonies.

Bail was set at $40,000.
