Dad sentenced to probation for burning hand of 5-year-old son (Chandler, Arizona)

Dad JOHNNY SALAZAR is getting probation for burning the hand of his 5-year-old son. Daddy (apparently) thought the boy was "possessed" when he touched Daddy's Bible. Right.

PHOENIX - Johnny Salazar, who pleaded guilty to child abuse after burning his son's hand, has been sentenced to 15 years probation.

As terms of his probation, 25-year-old Salazar is not allowed contact with children under the age of 15 unless it is approved by his probation officer.

A jail term of 9 months, beginning in May 2012, was deferred.

At the time of his arrest, Salazar's mother Connie Salazar said her son was taking a designer drug and was hallucinating.

Chandler police say Salazar burned his 5-year-old son with a lighter after he touched a Bible, thinking the boy was possessed.

Police say they suspect Salazar was under the influence of an unknown substance when he was arrested.
