Dad charged with aggravates assault against 5-month-old infant; had "sole custody" at time (Lansdale, Pennsylvania)

Dad DANILO ANTONIO DURAN is charged with aggravated assault, child endangerment, and simple assault for shaking his 5-month-old infant hard enought to bring on a seizure.

Notice that Dad's situation is pretty vague here. What do we mean that he had "sole custody" after 5:50 AM on the Monday of the assault? That he literally had physical and legal custody starting on Monday, till, say, Friday? Or just "sole custody" in some informal sense of the baby being solely in Daddy's care after 5:30 AM because Mom had to work? Either way, we see the dangers of leaving vulnerable young infants with volatile, violent men. Notice that there isn't one word here about this baby's mother.

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

A 40-year-old Towamencin father is charged with shaking his own infant until the child had a seizure Monday, according to police.

Danilo Antonio Duran, of the 1900 block of Nashmont Court was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault after his arrest Thursday and sent to county prison on $50,000 bail.

Police said about 11:35 a.m. Monday, Duran waved down an officer in the area of Forty Foot and Allentown roads and said his 5-month-old child was having a seizure and he was trying to get to the hospital.

The officer summoned an ambulance and the child and father were rushed to Grand View Hospital in West Rockhill, according to police. Doctors there found two subdural hematomas and the child was transferred to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Police said the injuries were consistent with "shaken baby syndrome," and after further investigation found that father had sole custody of the child from 5:50 a.m. Monday morning until he flagged down the police officer.
The child is expected to recover, according to police.

Duran was arrested Thursday.
