SEATTLE — The father of a baby boy sent to Harborview Medical Center with three broken ribs and bleeding in the brain was arrested Thursday on suspicion of first-degree assault of a child.
The 26-year-old East Wenatchee man was arrested after sheriff’s office detectives interviewed family members and emergency crews who attended to the child locally, Douglas County Undersheriff Don Culp said in a news release this morning.
Detectives then traveled to Seattle to speak with both parents.
Culp said the 2-month-old baby is in serious condition but is expected to recover from his injuries.
Deputies were dispatched to the emergency room at Central Washington Hospital Wednesday, after hospital personnel reported a possible case of child abuse, the news release said.
The baby had been transported there by ambulance because of seizures and loss of consciousness, the news release said.
The child was flown, with both parents, to Harborview.
The baby and his parents had already left for Seattle before deputies were notified, Culp said in the news release.
Deputies contacted Seattle Police to request aid in taking an initial report at Harborview, Culp said.
The man was transported to Wenatchee and booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center.
