Notice how Magistrate Peter Dingwall minimizes the seriousness of this crime and what could have happened. This is how family massacres are set up for the future.

Father 'threatened partner, children with chainsaw'
Updated Tue Jan 4, 2011 10:32am AEDT
Police allege the 41-year-old man from Evatt had the chainsaw last Sunday when he threatened to kill his partner and four children aged between five and 12 at their Evatt home.
The court heard the man's seven-year-old child has given an account of what happened, saying "my dad tried to kill my mum by chopping her with a chainsaw".
Police say witnesses heard the man say to his victims, "I'll rip you to threads" and "I'll cut you up".
The court was told there is some debate about whether the chainsaw was on the ground at the time of the alleged threats.
Magistrate Peter Dingwall said there is no doubt the victims were placed in a situation of fear
But Magistrate Dingwall said there is not a very strong case for the charges of threatening to kill and that the accused man's family need his income support.
The man is yet to enter a plea on several charges
He has been granted bail with strict conditions including that he stay away from Evatt and several other Canberra suburbs.
He will face court again in February.
