Custodial dad found guilty of "child endangering" in arson deaths of two sons (Highland County, Ohio)

We've reported on custodial dad WESLEY COONROD several times. Notice that once again, though earlier articles indicated that Coonrod had "full custody" and had a history of domestic violence, those facts are ignored here. Though they do bring up the interesting "coincidence" regarding the house fire that forced them to relocate to the home where the boys were killed.

And once again, a killer daddy gets a light sentence. What else is new.

Coonrod Jury Reaches Guilty Verdict

Updated: 10/11 2:10 pm

A jury has found a Highland County father accused of setting a fire that killed his preschool-age sons, guilty of lesser charges. 42 year old Wesley Coonrod is convicted on two counts of child endangering for the March deaths of his sons, 4 year old Thomas and three year old Stephen Coonrod.

Jurors deadlocked on the more serious charges of aggravated murder which could have led to Coonrod's being sent to death row. The judge in the case says a retrial is likely.

The Highland County Prosecutor had said Wesley Coonrod intentionally set the fire at his Greenfield home. But Coonrod told the jury he would never intentionally hurt his two young sons. Coonrod also denied dousing the hallway of his home with lighter fluid and setting it on fire. The defense maintains the children could have set the fire.

You may remember, just weeks before this fatal fire, the family escaped another fire. The Red Cross placed them in the home where this deadly fire took place.

The jury began deliberating last Wednesday. Meanwhile, Coonrod will be sentenced on the child endangering charges on Friday.
