No, this was RAPE. Repeated rape and sexual assault over a period of years by this UNNAMED DAD, which included a pregnancy when the daughter was only 15. No mention of a mother in this home. Father jailed eight years for incest

Calling it a "disgusting, horrific, distasteful and appalling" breach of trust by a parent, a judge has sentenced a father to eight years in prison for repeatedly raping his young daughter -- and fathering her child.

"This is gross child abuse by someone in a parental situation," provincial court Assistant Chief Judge Bob Wilkins said in sentencing the 46-year-old man for incest on Friday. "Those in a position of trust of children must not betray that trust.

"The sentence must express society's abhorrence for such acts."

Crown prosecutor Sarah Stewart, noting the abuse had been ongoing for three years by the time the daughter had his baby at 15 in 2008, had argued for eight to 10 years.

Wilkins said in reading an agreed statement of facts that the man, who pleaded guilty and cannot be named in order to protect his daughter's identity, "took away her virginity when she was 12."

"When she informed the accused of her pregnancy, he told her not to tell anyone that he was the father as he 'didn't want anyone to look at them funny,' " said Wilkins.

"(Still), the accused continued to have sex with (her) during the pregnancy."

The offender apologized in court before sentencing, saying he was "sorry for what happened to my daughter" and that he has lost his entire family because of it.

"I hope my daughter can have a better life. I wish my daughter all the best. I love my family dearly."

Wilkins sentenced the man to eight years for incest and four years concurrent for each of sexual interference and sexual exploitation.

He was prohibited for 10 years from owning or possessing any firearms or other weapons, ordered to provide a DNA sample, and must be registered as a sex offender for life.
