Dad barricades himself in apartment, threatens to harm self, toddler daughter (Hagersville, Ontario, Canada)

UNNAMED DAD has been arrested after barricading himself and his toddler daughter inside his apartment and threatening to harm himself and the child. Why have I never seen an article about a mom pulling a stunt like this? I'm sure it's happened somewhere (everything seems to have happened on God's green earth at least once), but it sure seems uncommon.

HAGERSVILLE, Ont. — A 28-year-old father is in custody after barricading himself inside an apartment in Hagersville, Ont., on Monday evening.

Provincial police were called at about 6:30 p.m. to check on the well-being of apartment occupants and discovered that a man was threatening to harm himself and his two-and-a-half year old daughter.

The area was cleared and neighbours evacuated in the community south of Brantford as negotiations began.

But fearing for the child's safety, police forced their way into the apartment just after 2 a.m. and arrested the man.

The girl was not harmed and was placed in the care of her mother.

The suspect's name has not yet been released.
