Dad arrested for hitting 5-year-old son with extension cord (Monroe, Louisiana)

Dad ADRIAN SIMS has been arrested for hitting his 5-year-old son with an extension cord. Dad argued that he didn't use an extension cord--he used a belt. If there's some big distinction between the two, I fail to see it.

Ouachita Parish deputies arrested a man Thursday afternoon suspected of hitting his son with an extension cord.

Adrian Sims, 29, of 117 Trichell Drive, Monroe, was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center on cruelty to a juvenile.

According to an arrest affidavit, deputies met with Child Protective Services at Swartz Lower Elementary School about a 5-year old boy abused by his father.

The victim was called to the school's office, where protective service officers and deputies saw the marks on the boy's back, legs and left arm. Deputies said the marks were consistent with whipping by an extension cord. Protective service officials told deputies the victim said his father hit him with a black extension cord.

Sims told deputies he did not hit his son with a cord, but with a belt. He said the marks were so spread out because his son would not stay still.

Deputies said the victim had healing bruises in the same area of the fresh marks.

Sims' bond was not set.
