The father of a six week old child has been arrested after authorities say the child suffered traumatic injuries to the head and neck area.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20-year old Robert James Bishop Thursday night and charged him with child abuse resulting in great bodily injury.
A Sheriff’s Office incident report obtained by News Channel 7 states that deputies responded to Mary Black Hospital Wednesday in reference to a child abuse report. When they arrived, they were informed that the child, identified by family members as Alan Ray Bishop, was transported to the hospital earlier in the evening with a head injury.
Deputies say the child was admitted to Mary Black Hospital after the child’s parents, Megan Shields and Bishop, told them that the baby rolled off of a pillow and hit his head on one of the bars in his crib. Spartanburg County authorities say they were contacted by hospital staff after it was determined that the child’s injuries were not consistent with what they were told and Bishop was suffering from multiple head injuries and trauma.
The report states that Robert Bishop told deputies he called 911 and said that he had fed the baby and the baby looked pale. Shields told officers that she was in the shower and returned after Bishop had called 911.
According to the report, on September 22, the baby was also hospitalized with an eye injury.
Bishop has been released on $50,000 bond
