EAST NEW MARKET, Md.- The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 21-year-old East New Market man accused of shaking his 3-month-old son so hard that the infant suffered internal bleeding and head trauma.
Police took Wadde Douglas Barnes into custody Thursday as the result of an investigation into a child abuse complaint that was reported on Aug. 31.
According to investigators, the incident involved Barnes's 3-month-old son who was treated at Dorchester General Hospital for internal bleeding and later transferred to Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. for further treatment. Police say the medical report indicated the infant suffered from inflicted head trauma consistent with violent shaking.
Barnes is charged with first- and second-degree assault and first-degree child abuse resulting in serious physical injury. He is being held on $100,000 bond. Police say the infant has been removed from Barnes's home.
A preliminary hearing for Barnes is scheduled for Nov. 9 in Dorchester County District Court.
