Father, son charged in attack on off-duty police officers (Kansas City, Missouri)

Sons need their daddies because...otherwise, where would the next generation of cop bashers come from? Dad MARK WYCOFF sure raised junior right. Now Sonny is charged with 1st-degree assault on a police officer, and Dad is charged with resisting or interfering with felony arrest.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A father and son are in trouble after scuffling with off-duty police officers in the Power and Light District.

The incident happened at around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday when an off-duty police officer approached a 21-year-old man who police said was trying to cut through a line.

The man turned around and started to fight with the officer, police said. During the struggle, the officer fell backward and hit his head on the ground.

Another off-duty officer jumped in to help the officer, but he was attacked by the first man's father.

Both men were eventually arrested, but police said gaining the upper hand in a situation like this one is difficult.

"At least on the job we have a radio and dispatch," said Sgt. Ty Grant of the Kansas City Police Academy."People know where we are. Other officers know if we need help, so we can get help. But off-duty, sometimes we don't have those tools."

"The Kansas City Power and Light District and all of Kansas City owe an incredible debt of gratitude to the Kansas City Police Department and its officers," said Kevin Battle, Chief Operations Officer for the Kansas City Power and Light District. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and his family for a full recovery."

Scott Wycoff, 21, was charged with first-degree assault on a police officer and Mark Wycoff was charged resisting or interfering with felony arrest. There is no word about the condition of the officer. Both men are from California.
