Dad throws two kids in lake, then jumps himself (Chennai, India)

Dad VELAYUTHAN was reportedly depressed, so he threw his 7-year-old and his 5-year-old in a lake and then jumped in himself. Only one child's body has been found.

CHENNAI: A 35-year-old man is believed to have thrown his two kids into the Puzhal lake and later jumped in himself on Sunday evening.

Velayuthan Natarajan, a goldsmith in Sowcarpet, was depressed after his wife committed suicide on last Friday. Velayuthan took his two children Sujitha (7) and Hari (5) on Sunday evening and bought them chocolates.

At 7.30 he called his brother-in-law Parthiban revealing his sad state of mind. Partiban waited for Velayuthan to return home but even after 9.30 when he did not return, a search was launched by the relatives in the night. They found Velayuthan’s bike near the bridge over the Puzhal lake. The search was stopped in the night and resumed again in the wee hours of Monday.

It was then that the relatives found the child’s body floating on the lake. Red Hills police fished out Velayuthan’s body in afternoon.
