Dad charged with assault of Mom, kidnapping of 3-week-old newborn (Durham, North Carolina)

I understand that some abductions are by protective parents. But here's my rule of thumb: whenever the abducting parent assaults the other parent as part of the abduction, the obductor is Bad News. This seems to be the case with dad KEYON JAMEL MCCLAIN, who is not only charged with assault on the mother of his 3-week-old son, but breaking-and-entering and larceny. And what does Dad need a 3-week-old newborn for anyway? This guy looks like a classic abuser through and through.

DURHAM -- A Durham father was arrested Sunday morning in connection with the kidnapping of his 3-week-old son.

Police said that Keyon Jamel McClain, 24, broke into his ex-girlfriend's house on Adams Street on Saturday night, assaulted her and left with their child, Centurion Markey McClain, in a minivan.

Early Sunday, officers found McClain and the baby at a relative's house on Liberty Street.

McClain was arrested without incident, Lt. Dill Johnson said. The infant was returned to his mother safely, Johnson said.

McClain was charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse and one count each of second-degree kidnapping, felony breaking-and-entering and larceny. Police said he took two cell phones from his ex-girlfriend, preventing her from immediately calling authorities.

According to the N.C. Department of Correction, McClain was convicted of two counts of assault on a female in 2004 and one count of communicating threats in 2005. McClain was being held in the Durham County jail Sunday. He was denied bail on one charge and issued a $250,000 bond for the others. He faces a judge this morning.
