Custodial dad charged after 5-year-old daughter overdoses on anxiety medication (Lexington County, North Carolina)

Single dad WAYNE GABRIEL HEDRICK has been arrested after his 5-year-old daughter overdosed on Ativan, an anxiety medication. Both of his kids are now in the custody of the Department of Social Services. As usual in these articles, not a word about the children's mother. Is she alive? Did she relinquish custody? Did the "anxious" dad strip her of custody? Why don't reporters ask these things?

A Davidson County man was arrested after his 5-year-old daughter was hospitalized for overdosing on anxiety medication Aug. 3.

According to a press release, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the incident by Child Protective Services on Aug. 4. Following an investigation, the child’s father, Wayne Gabriel Hedrick, 33, of 474 Giles Road, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He received a $3,000 unsecured bond.

The child ingested an undetermined amount of the medication lorazepam (Ativan) and had to be hospitalized overnight.

Sheriff David Grice said one other child was in the home at the time the incident occurred. Both children are in the custody of the Department of Social Services.

Hedrick, a single parent, will appear in Lexington District Court on Sept. 8.
