A man was arrested last week after his infant son suffered severe trauma to the head, the Washoe County Sheriff’s office said.

Michael Hernandez, 20, of Cold Springs was booked Wednesday on one count of child abuse causing substantial bodily harm. His bail was set at $20,000.

The incident was reported Feb. 21 after Hernandez’s five-month-old son suffered injuries to his head, deputies said in a news release.

Deputies said Hernandez was in sole care of his son at the time of the injuries, launching an investigation leading to his arrest.

Family members had taken the infant to a local hospital for treatment. The condition of the child was not immediately known Monday. Deputies said the investigation is ongoing.
