Police in Woodridge, Ill. revealed on April 5 that 34-year-old Robert Bzdek stabbed his three-year-old daughter, Zuzanna Bzdek, multiple times on Friday before taking his own life by hanging himself in his Woodridge home.

It was Bzdek’s teen stepson who called the police after seeing bloody footprints leading from the home’s master bedroom, but couldn’t get into the room because it was nailed shut, according to The Chicago Tribune.

“I watched as they carried out my limp sister out the door,” said Emanuel Szyszka in an email.

The three-year-old child that her brother lovingly calls “Zuzia,” was just barely alive when police arrived on the scene around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, but died later in surgery at Edward Hospital and Health Services in Naperville.

The father was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teen stepson, 17-year-old Emanuel Szyszka said he saw blood near his stepfather’s bedroom but couldn’t get into the room. “It turned out the door had been secured with a two-by-four and power tools,” Szyszka said.

It was only after police arrived did the teen find out about the grisly details inside the home. “…Not until much later did I learn he had stabbed (my) precious Zuzia in the chest before he hung himself.”

The news of the murder-suicide also shocked neighbors in Bzdek’s normally quiet suburban neighborhood.

“On Saturday, the well-kept home was surrounded with yellow police tape and guarded by a police officer. A child’s toy lawnmower sat near the front door.”

One neighbor, Eva Paprocki, said that the slain three-year-old Zuzanna “sometimes played dress-up and other games with her little girl since the two were close in age.”

Paprocki was at the hospital on Friday with Zuzanna's mother, who the neighbor described as still being in shock. “

“She cannot believe it,” Paprocki said. “She thinks she's going to wake up and everything's going to be fine.”

The slain girl’s brother started a GoFundMe page to raise donations for his beloved sister’s wake and funeral.

Police have no motive for the murder-suicide.
