Custodial dad gets 30 years of starving, caging 13-year-old son (Brevard County, Florida)

I still have yet to see much explanation as to how dad MICHAEL MARSHALL got custody of this boy, and who gave him to him. Nor have I seen anything about this boy's mother. But it's well known that Florida is especially hostile to mothers and indifferent to domestic violence. Abusive fathers are often rewarded with custody.!DG5Qx

Father sentenced 30 years for starving, caging son

Michael Marshall's son weighed just 40 pounds when found

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —The Brevard County father accused of caging and starving his own son has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Michael Marshall pleaded no contest to eight charges of child abuse, torture, and false imprisonment. He and his girlfriend, Sharon Glass, were arrested for keeping the 13-year-old boy in a cage in their Titusville home for more than a year.

Prosecutors say Marshall and Glass began punishing the boy for stealing food. They increased the punishment every time, eventually zip-tying the boy's hands and feet for up to two days at a time and locking him in a closet for days or weeks at a time.

The teen weighed only 40 pounds when police found him on the bathroom floor in March 2012.

Investigators call it one of the most horrifying cases of child abuse they had ever seen.

The judge called the sentence "generous."
