Jersey City police are looking for a city man who allegedly slapped his 5-year-old son across the face several times after the boy threw french fries at him, reports said.
When officers responded to Myrtle Avenue at 7:09 p.m. Wednesday they found the boy being treated in an ambulance, reports said.
The child's mother said they were standing on the street when the boy and his father began arguing; and after the boy threw the fries, his father "grabbed him and slapped him several times with an open hand above his right eye," reports said.
The mother said when she tried to stop the boy's father, he grabbed her by the neck and tried to choke her before running away, reports said.
The boy suffered "swelling and marks" on his face and was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment, reports said. When police asked the mother if she wanted to give a statement about the alleged assault on her son, she became extremely uncooperative and left the police station, reports said.
A judge signed a warrant charging the boy's father with assault and endangering the welfare of a child, reports said. The suspect's name was not released.
